What did Rod Ferrell do?
Rod Ferrell is an American cult leader who murdered Naomi Queen and Richard Wendorf on the 25th November, 1996. Ferrell and his accomplice, Howard Scott Anderson, entered their home through an unlocked garage and used a crowbar to beat them to death. They beat Richard while he slept on his sofa, and when Ruth found the killers in her home, Ferrell bludgeoned her to death.
Ferrell was a member of a gang of teenagers from Kentucky, and he claimed he was a 500-year old-vampire named Vesago after becoming obsessed with a video game called Vampire: The Masquerade.
What happened during the trial?
On the 12th February, 1998, 17-year-old Ferrell pleaded guilty to the double murders. His lawyers tried to plead insanity, as he had previously been diagnosed with Schizotypal personality disorder, and the University of Florida also attested to Rod sometimes witnessing spiritual things like angels and demons.
The judge in the case sentenced Ferrell to death, with Anderson sentenced to life in prison.
At the time of his incarceration, he was the youngest inmate on death row, but in November, 2000, the Florida Supreme Court reduced his sentence to life in prison.
In January, 2013, a court dismissed attempts from Ferrell and Anderson to get a new sentencing hearing, but in December, 2018, Anderson was re-sentenced to 40 years in prison. He is eligible for release in 2031.
Where is Rod Ferrell now?
Ferrell is currently serving his life sentence in Northwest Florida Reception Center Annex, and he is 43 years of age.
