What did Kaitlyn Armstrong do?
Kaitlyn Armstrong is an American murderer who shot and killed professional cyclist Moriah Wilson at a friend’s home in Austin, Texas, on the night of the 11th of May 2022. Armstrong killed Wilson because of jealousy, which was triggered by Wilson’s brief romantic relationship with her on/off boyfriend, Colin Strickland, who was also a pro cyclist.
On the 17th of May, an arrest warrant was issued for Kaitlin Armstrong. However, she fled to Costa Rica, assumed fake identities, and changed her appearance through plastic surgery. However, U.S. Marshals managed to locate Armstrong by placing an ad on Facebook pretending to look for a yoga instructor. After 43 days on the run, Armstrong was arrested in a hostel in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica on the 29th of June 2022.
What happened during the trial?
Armstrong was arraigned on the 21st of July 2022, and she pleaded not guilty to the murder of Moriah Wilson. She was held on $3.5 million bond in Travis County Jail. The case went to trial on the 30th of October 2023.
On the 12th of October 2023, Armstrong briefly escaped from police officers who had taken her to a doctor’s appointment. She was re-apprehended after a short chase.
On the 16th of November 2023, Armstrong was found guilty of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 90 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after 30 years. Armstrong is currently appealing the conviction.
Where is Kaitlyn Armstrong now?
Kaitlyn Armstrong is serving her sentence in the Dr. Lane Murray Unit, a women’s prison in Gatesville. The murder of Moriah Wilson was brutal, and the lengths she went to in order to escape justice was shocking. Hopefully the prison has good security, as it wouldn’t be a surprise if Armstrong tried to escape from there as well.
