Where is Jesse Matthew Jr. now? | The Back-to-School Killer

Jesse Matthew Jr

What did Jesse Matthew Jr. do?

Jesse Matthew Jr. is an American murderer who was responsible for killing Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington and University of Virginia student Hannah Graham. However, authorities believe he could be responsible for many more murders.

Matthew Jr. was arrested in late September 2014, just shy of 2 weeks after Graham went missing from Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. He was spotted near Galveston, Texas, with police believing he was planning to flee the country. Forensic evidence linked Matthew to both the Graham and Harrington murders.

The Murder of Morgan Harrington

Morgan Harrington was a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who completely vanished from the John Paul Jones Arena while attending a Metallica concert in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Soon after the concert began, Harrington told friends she was going to the restroom. However, she didn’t return. They called her cell phone and she told them she had been locked out of the arena due to a “no re-entry” policy. She told them not to worry as she would find her own way home. She was last seen alive at approximately 9:30 pm,  hitchhiking on a nearby bridge.

3 months passed by with no answers for her distraught family until her remains were discovered in rural farmland.

The Murder of Hannah Graham

Hannah Graham was an 18-year-old British-born American student at the University of Virginia. She went missing in the early hours of the 13th of September 2014.

Hannah Graham was last heard from when she sent a text message to a friend at about 1:20 am and told them she was on her way to a party, but was lost. Graham was seen at a restaurant with Jesse Matthew Jr., a 32-year-old man. 5 weeks went by until her remains were discovered on an abandoned property in nearby Albemarle County.

Jesse Matthew was arrested, and a forensic connection was later made to Morgan Harrington’s murder. He pleaded guilty to murdering Graham and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He was also found guilty of Morgan Harrington’s murder in 2016.

Where is Jesse Matthew Jr now?

Jesse Matthew Jr was serving his life sentence at Red Onion State Prison in Wise County but was moved to Sussex I State Prison in Waverly in May 2019, so he could get medical treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. He is in his 40s now and still alive despite this diagnosis.

  1. Quite frankly, I am disappointed that Jessie Matthew is still alive. I thought for sure when I heard he had stage four colon cancer that he would be dead in nanosecond, but no such luck. What an awful fate he inflicted on Hannah and Morgan. I have also thought it was terrible that the people in the bar in Charlottesville, who knew what kind of a person he was, let her go with him. All the bartender had to do was offer money for her to take a Lyft or an Uber home.

  2. He should have gotten the death penalty and there should be no mercy shown for him ….what is justice for families of murder victims…..why should anyone care about their pain when they are executed?

  3. If Liberty University had not taken his side, and harassed and vilified the15-yr old girl who he was accused of raping, those two young ladies might still be alive today. But athletes are always protected, while the girls and women they’ve abused are victimized all over again. And in this case, it cost two young ladies their lives.

  4. I personally believe he should have received and gotten the death penalty. But Gid still offers forgiveness and salvation to anyone who is willing to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord.

We are all sinners. We all deserve the death penalty.

Only God’s grace and forgiveness separates us from eternal hell and never ending hell fire and separation from God and eternal glory through Jesus Christ.

  5. Why is he even still alive?
He should suffer in the most excruciating pain, he doesn’t deserve the right to receive pain relief. I hope he rots in HELL..

  6. My daughter passed away from stage 4 colon cancer 6 weeks after the diagnosis. Yet this evil person lives.

Life is so unfair at times.

  7. He is evil. I hope he suffers from this cancer. Pain meds should not be given. He inflicted so much pain. I’m sure GOD is waiting for him. He deserves to suffer.
