The Murder of Tupac Shakur

The 7th of September 1996 is a date that sticks in the minds of many fans of the world-renowned rapper 2pac, whose real name was Tupac Shakur.

That night, Shakur was involved in a fight with Orlando Anderson at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The fight took place after Shakur and the head of Death Row Records, Suge Knight, attended the Mike Tyson vs Bruce Seldon boxing match. After the fight, Shakur returned to his hotel room at the Luxor Las Vegas, got changed and headed out in a BMV sedan with Suge Knight to perform a charity concert at Club 662.

At 11:15 pm, a white Cadillac pulled up alongside the BMW sedan, rolled down the window and fired gunshots into the car, hitting Shakur 4 times, and significantly twice in the chest. Knight was hit in the head due to fragmentation.

Despite Knight’s injuries and the car having a flat tyre, he was able to drive Shakur and himself away from the scene to Las Vegas Boulevard. After arriving on the scene, paramedics took Knight and Shakur to the hospital. At the hospital, Shakur was heavily sedated, placed on life support and put under a medically-induced coma.

On the afternoon of the 13th of September 1996, Shakur died of respiratory failure that led to cardiac arrest. Doctors attempted to revive him but it was too late, and Shakur died.
