Where is Chad Doerman now? | The horrific story behind the murder of three boys

What did Chad Doerman do?

Chad Doerman shot and killed his three sons, Clayton, Hunter and Chase, at their home on June 15, 2023. The triple murder was committed in a shocking execution style, with his wife and stepdaughter narrowly escaping the carnage, despite being shot and held at gunpoint. Police arrived on the scene and arrested the 32-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

What led up to the murders of the Doerman boys?

Chad Doerman had not committed any other serious criminal offences leading up to the murders of the three boys. However, he was arrested in 2010 for choking his father, but no further action was taken, as his father failed to appear as a witness.

Many neighbours have come forward to say that they heard Doerman shouting at his family almost every day, which suggests that this emotional abuse was the precursor to the murders. It also appears that Doerman had been planning the murders for months.

What happened during the murders?

On the day of the murders, Chad Doerman reportedly returned home early from work and told his three sons and his wife to join him in the main bedroom for a nap. The affidavit reports that once they had laid down on the bed, he went into his gun safe and got his rifle. He then shot Hunter twice, killing him instantly. Doerman’s wife tried to help her son, while telling the other two boys to run. The stepdaughter was watching television but entered the bedroom and saw the first shots. She told Clayton to keep running. Doerman caught up to him in a nearby field and shot him in the head from behind.

The mother picked up Chase and escaped to the road, but Doerman caught up to them, and told her to put Chase down. However, he was out of ammunition and returned to the house. He picked up Hunter’s dead body and laid him down on the lawn. A fight ensued between him and his wife as Doerman tried to take Chase from her. He fired, shooting his wife in the hand, and then shot Chase in the head. He then laid him down next to his brothers and sat on the steps of his house, watching his wife try to resuscitate the boys.
