What did Andrew Cunanan do?

Andrew Cunanan was an American spree killer who murdered five people over a three month period in 1997. He is most well known for killing Italian fashion designer, Gianni Versace, on the steps of his mansion.

Cunanan began his murder spree on the 26th April, 1997, when he killed his friend, Jeffrey Allen Trail, after an argument. He beat him to death with a hammer.

His second victim was David Jon Madson, who had been present at the time of Trail’s murder, and stayed with Cunanan for two days after the murder. He was initially treated as a suspect in Trail’s murder, but his family insist he was held hostage by Cunanan. His body was found on the east shore of Rush Lake near Rush City, Minnesota. He had gun shot wounds to the head and back.

On the 3rd May, 1997, Cunanan drove to Chicago and killed Lee Albert Miglin, a 72-year old prominent real estate developer. He stabbed him more than twenty times with a screwdriver and slit his throat with a hacksaw.

The spree killer then moved on to Pennsville Township, New Jersey, and shot and killed William Richard Reese, a cemetery caretaker. Authorities believed Cunanan killed Reese to obtain his pickup truck. He then used this truck to travel to Florida, where he stayed at the Normandy Plaza Hotel in Miami Beach, checking in on the 12th May. On the 12th June, Cunanan was listed on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List.
