Amidu Koroma stabbed his wife to death and blamed their teenage son for the murder. Koroma used petrol to start a fire to cover up the murder of his 46-year-old wife, Mariam Kamara. He’d stabbed her 4 times in the face, neck and chest with a kitchen knife as she slept in her bed in the early hours of the 24th of January 2022. The murder took place in Brixton in London.

His 19-year-old son Ishmael was asleep in the house at the time of the murder and Koroma used his presence at the scene to pin the murder on him. He claimed he was mentally disturbed and re-enacted a scene from the Netflix show, You.

What happened during the investigation?

Koroma was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 29 years with a concurrent sentence of 7 years for arson following a trial at the Old Bailey.

During the trial, details of the couple’s relationship were revealed, with claims that it was “toxic” and Ms. Kamara had expressed fears that he was going to kill her one day.

Koroma apparently feared his wife would leave him for a man she had struck up a close friendship with in Sierra Leone, and it was claimed this was the motive for the murder.
