The Games We Play
Episode 7 of What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim starts with Brandon crashing Troy and Kim’s date. She is startled to see him but agrees to let him drop her home. He explains he can’t let her go out with anyone in case she is kidnapped and hurt over the company’s secrets. Even Secretary Kim fails to believe this can happen. Brando points out that someone once approached her, and she assures him that Troy is an old childhood friend. Either way, Brandon insists he is unhappy to see her dating as she is the most trusted person.
Later, Kim talks to her sisters about her date with Troy and everything else. After learning about their date, her sisters question if she is in love with Brandon. Kim says it is nothing like that, but Kla says it is okay for her to want a nice date. After all, she deserves to be treated well. They resume their conversation on Brandon’s behaviour and whether he was traumatised as a kid.
The following day, Brandon has a panic attack after seeing cable ties in his office. Secretary Kim apologises and takes full responsibility, promising it won’t happen again. However, Brandon says she can’t guarantee that since she is leaving. Secretary Kim tries her best to calm him down and prepares some chamomile tea for him. She promises to do a better job of taking care of him, but Brandon is still shaken from the incident. It triggered his memory of being locked away.
On the other hand, Cyrus talks to his mom and says he wants to talk to Brandon. His mom asks him to be patient with his brother but says she is happy he is finally home.
At the company, the workers prepare for their team bonding exercise while Secretary Kim asks her co-workers to bear with her. She worries she is running out of time and won’t be able to prepare them to handle Brandon best. She promises she will help them bond with Brandon more. At the same time, Philip asks Brandon if he will participate in the team – bonding activities. Initially, Brandon is uninterested until he spots Secretary Kim talking closely to a handsome colleague. He changes his mind out of jealousy and joins the fun.
The workers are happy to have him on board, and the games are exciting. Unfortunately, Brandon’s team fall in the second position after he gets injured trying to break Secretary Kim’s fall. She calls the medic to look at the leg, and he kicks him out. Secretary Kim offers to do the cold compress, but Brandon refuses, saying he won’t take his socks off. Secretary Kim tries to reason with him and pulls his socks down. She is shocked to see ligature marks on his ankles.
The Episode Review
This episode gives us a sneak peek into Brandon’s fear of being left behind and his cable ties. Whatever happened in the past deeply traumatised him. Secretary Kim’s leaving and his brother’s return seems to have triggered him. He keeps thinking about the traumatic incident in his past.
Unfortunately, the episodes are so short that we never see how everything plays out in one scene. This can be frustrating, as it makes the audience feel like the writers are dragging this storyline.
Let us dive into the next episode to see if Secretary Kim and Brandon will get closer and if we will learn more about the Brandon-Cyrus beef.
