What happened to Eddie Hutch Snr?
On the 8th of February 2016, Eddie Hutch Snr was shot dead in a feud between 2 gangs in the Republic of Ireland. Hutch was a part of the Hutch gang, which was run by his brother Gerry Hutch, and they were in conflict with the Kinahan gang, led by Christy Kinahan. The war between the gangs was known as the 2015-16 Irish gangland feud, and it resulted in the deaths of 10 people overall.
Men broke into Hutch’s house in Dublin at about 7:45 pm on the 8th of February, and he was shot 9 times. His partner was at home and was not injured in the attack, but she did witness it. The motive for his execution was thought to be revenge for the shooting of a man called David Byrne, who was murdered 3 days earlier at a hotel.
Eddie was a non-violent criminal, with convictions for small-time fraud and shoplifting. Having said that, he was suspected of helping his brother launder proceeds from his criminal activities, and was targeted by Operation Alpha, which was the name of the Criminal Assets Bureau’s investigation.
Who was David Byrne?
David Byrne was an Irish criminal who was shot dead on the 5th of February 2016 at the Regency Hotel in Whitehall, Dublin. Police believed Daniel Kinahan, the son of Christy Kinahan, was the intended target.
Byrne was attending a weigh-in ahead of a WBO European lightweight boxing match between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio João Bento at the Regency Hotel. The weigh-in was interrupted by an organised attack. There were 4 attackers wearing masks and disguised as members of the Garda Emergency Response Unit who opened fire and subsequently killed Byrne.
Gerry Hutch was found not guilty of Byrne’s murder after a 13-week trial in 2023.

In April 2023, Barry Finnegan was arrested in connection with Eddie Hutch Snr’s murder. He is a senior member of the Kinahan gang and is also a convicted sex offender.
