Who was Eridania Rodriguez?

On July 8th 2009, police received a report about a 46-year-old woman named Eridania who had gone missing from a building in the Financial District. She had failed to return home after her shift, prompting her family to search the entire building for her, but they were unable to find any trace.

The news of her disappearance quickly spread to the media, increasing pressure on the police to locate her. During their investigation, the police searched Eridania’s locker and found her purse inside, along with her hairclips and push cart on the floor, raising suspicions. Reviewing the building’s CCTV footage, they discover that there’s no sign of Eridania leaving the building.

Nineteen days after Eridania’s disappearance, her ex-husband initially became the prime suspect but was later cleared of suspicion. The family also informed the police that Eridania had mentioned a stalker at work, but this individual was also ruled out as a suspect. During their investigation, the police noticed a suspicious individual while reviewing the footage.

The man was identified as Joseph Pabon. When questioned, Joseph claimed to have been working on a freight elevator, and last saw Eridania on the 8th floor. Upon being asked to remove his shirt, the police notice numerous scratch marks on his shoulders and wrists, which Joseph said he got while working on the elevator. Although he’s released at that time, the police continue to monitor his activities.

Concurrently, they searched for possible locations where Eridania’s body could have been disposed. Eventually, the police discover Eridania’s body stifled inside an air duct on the 12th floor. After the autopsy, the cause of death was determined to be homicidal asphyxiation, indicating that she had been alive when the perpetrator taped her into the duct.
