What Happened In Episode 4?

Urusei Yatsura Episode 4 was split into two story segments. The first set piece centered around Kurama and her desire to find a husband. With her birds’ help, she sets her sights on Rei and abducts him and Ran. Ran and Kurama squabble briefly, resulting in Ran getting ejected from her ship.

Later, Ran tells Lum what happened and convinces her to help her retrieve Rei. One of the birds leaves to get groceries and unknowingly picks Ataru up. On Kurama’s ship, she, Ran, and Lum get into several back-and-forth dilemmas, with Ataru joining in on the fun. Ultimately, Kurama uses her ship’s trap door to send Lum and the others away.

Rei transforms and the birds fear that Kurama will notice Rei’s beast form and deem him unworthy. Therefore, they convince Kurama to take Rei to her bedroom so they can proceed with their baby-making affairs. This results in another quarrel between her, Lum, and Ataru. Ran uses this opportunity to secure food for Rei from the main floor, but she ends up falling down the trap door.

Fortunately, Rei saves her and immediately rushes to gobble the food up in his ox form. This set piece ends with Kurama discovering Rei’s beast form and finding him to be unworthy of her love. The next segment follows Mendo, who learns his father’s scheduled him to marry his rival’s (Tobimaro’s) sister.

Ataru and Mendo’s sister Ryoko get involved but Mendo’s set on marrying her to honor his family’s name. Mendo travels to Tobimaro’s family’s estate and Tobimaro tells Mendo that he doesn’t have a sister. Ataru, Mendo, and Tobimaro hide and learn that Tobimaro has a sister. While Tobimaro and Mendo bicker, Ataru uses the chance to spy on her.

He gets too touchy with Tobimaro’s sister at their family’s track field, resulting in her hurling him back to the riverbed. The episode closes with Tobimaro’s sister’s guards comforting her.
