Upcoming BLs To Watch in August 2024

Veteran BL fans are excited to see Big portray a leading role in Monster Next Door alongside Park from 2 Moons: The Ambassador this August. From Taiwan, Charles Tu of History 4: Close To You will grace our screens again in another BL role alongside another fan favourite from My Tooth Your Love, Michael Chang. It looks like we have enough content dropping this month, and we are excited to see these new projects.

Without further ado, here are the Boy Love series dropping this month. What shows are you excited to watch this month?

Sugar Dog Life

Network: ABC, TV Asahi

Premiere date: 4th August

If you have not read the manga, Sugar Dog Life, you must add it to your reading list promptly and immerse yourself into the bliss of this lovely story as we wait for the BL adaptation to drop.

Here, a low-key but adorable university student, Isumi, runs into the lively and charming police officer Amasawa, who escorts him home after mistaking him for a minor. Fate brings them together again and gives them a chance to experience love and all the cuddly cuteness when Isumi invites Amasawa to his place for a home-cooked meal.

Cosmetic Playlover

Network: GagaOOLala, Fuji TV

Premiere date: 6th August

This is another Japanese BL series adapted from the manga cosmetic playlover. The plot of friends with benefits to lovers may feel overused in Japanese Bls, but the writers always find a way to make each story as unique as possible, leaving fans enthralled by the overdose of lovely moments.

Monster Next Door

Network: Wetv

Premiere date: 8th August

Our favourite Thai BL actor, Big (God), is back on our screens, alongside another gem from 2 Moons: Ambassador, Park (Diew), in this fantastic story of opposites attract. The official pilot already has over a million views as the sizzling chemistry between Big and Park fuels the fans’ anticipation.

First Note of Love

Network: GagaOOLala, Viki

Premiere date: 12th August

We all know that any BL series out of Taiwan is a masterpiece, and this one promises to be a special treat for music lovers. It tells the story of singer and songwriter Neil, who struggles with stage fright, and his timid but loyal fan, Xiao Hai, who might be Neil’s key to overcoming his past traumas and rediscovering his passions.

The Last Time

Network: PPTV

Premiere date: 16th August

The Last Time tells the story of a second chance in love for a skilled writer named Ryu. Life becomes unbearable after losing his long-term girlfriend in a car accident. As the guilt eats him up from within, Ryu drowns himself in alcohol. Ryu’s life starts to brighten up after meeting up with Arm.

However, life has other plans for the new lovers, making Ryu suddenly disappear from Arm’s life. What happened to Ryu? Will the two lovers reunite again?

The Paradise of Thorns

Network: GDH

Premiere date: 22nd August

While it is not a BL series, this movie has fans holding their breaths in anticipation and deserves a special mention. The trailer promises some heavy themes about gay marriage, delving into the legality of the entity, especially after the death of a spouse.

Thongkram, played by Jeff Satur, strives to fight for his recognition as Sek’s life partner and the rights to their house and the durian orchard they worked tirelessly to cultivate after Sek’s death. Although they were a devoted gay couple, Thongkram had no rights to their assets, since they were never legally married. He has to fight against Sek’s mother and her adopted daughter after his death to reclaim the fruits of their love.

Love Sea Special Episode

Network: GMM 25, iQiyi

Premiere date: 25th August

‘Love Sea’ is a heartwarming tale of unexpected love. Tongrak, an introverted romance novelist, embarks on a journey to an island in search of inspiration. There, he meets Mahasamut, a simple man with a lot of love to give. Despite their casual sexual relationship, can they keep their hearts from falling for each other? The show is expected to end on August 11th but a special episode will air on August 25th. We hope the episode will focus on continuing the love story between Tongrak and Mahasamut .
