Upcoming K-dramas to Watch in December 2024 | TheReviewGeek Recommends

The year 2024 has been particularly good to us when it comes to K-drama-world and December does not fail. While this month comes with fewer releases than usual, there are still some incredibly compelling stories to look forward to. Ju Ji-hoon returns in a new fantasy-mystery Disney+ drama and Kim Hae-sook plays a character who gets a second chance at life.

And, of course, a massive Netflix blockbuster K-drama is finally releasing a second season in the last week of December. Read on to find out about all the K-dramas releasing in December 2024:

Release Date: 4th December  

Lead Cast: Ju Ji-hoon, Park Bo-young, Uhm Tae-goo, Bae Sung-woo, Kim Seol-hyun, Lee Jung-eun, and more

Where to Watch: Disney+

Plot: A group of strangers, each of whom has a traumatic past, are mysteriously drawn to a light shop which seems to be a liminal space between life and death. This mystery series is based on a webtoon of the same name. The first four episodes of this series will air on 4th December, while the rest will then air on a weekly basis.

Release Date: 5th December

Lead Cast: Jeon So-min, Gong Min-jung, Jang Hee-ryung, Choi Daniel, Kim Mu-jun

Where to Watch: KBS Joy

Plot: This K-drama revolves around three women and their intertwining lives — Ji Song-yi whose engagement breaks off and leaves her with a lot of debt, Choi Ha-na who is a hardworking mom, and Chan-yang who is a pottery teacher. This is a comedy romance drama and new episodes will air every Thursday from release.

Where to Watch: KBS2

Plot: Veteran Korean actress Kim Hae-sook plays Oh Mal-soon, a stalwart woman who raised her family after losing her husband at a young age. Suddenly, she finds herself turned into her 20-year-old body (played by Jung Ji-so). She then takes up the identity of Oh Doo-ri and decides to pursue her long-time dream of becoming a singer. New episodes of this drama will air every Wednesday and Thursday.

Where to Watch: Channel A  

Plot: A period drama set during the Joseon era, Check-in Hanyang revolves around the four interns who work at an inn called the Yongcheonru. One is a prince in disguise, the second is a woman dressed as a man, the third is the inn’s owner’s son, and the fourth is a man in need of money. New episodes of this series will release on Saturdays and Sundays.

Where to Watch: ENA, Genie TV, Viki

Plot: Kang Soo-hyun is a talented producer who trains idols but gets fired from her position as the co-CEO of an entertainment company. She tries to use a trainee named Jin-woo for her own benefit but over time, starts changing her mind. Meanwhile, her husband is a full-time homemaker who takes care of their hard-of-hearing son but now wants to get back to his career as a music producer.

Release Date: 26th December  

Lead Cast: Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Im Si-wan, Yang Dong-geun, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon

Where to Watch: Netflix

Plot: The blockbuster drama that helped send K-dramas worldwide is back with a second season. Squid Game Season 2 picks up three years later. Gi-hun may have won the games back in the first instalment but is now bent on exposing and destroying the organization. Meanwhile, the Front Man continues to be a mystery and Wi Ha-joon returns as Detective Hwang Jun-ho.
