Glaswegian band Twin Atlantic empower here on their album Meltdown, though things aren’t fully pure. The act dazzles with heightened guitar moments and evocative lyrics which point to shame and misfortune. The narrative burst is compelling too, as the outfit tells a story through these striking anecdotes.
Life problems are explored on this release, as the lyrics demonstrate a breaking point, where the band feels the brunt of the world. The world has become such a mess, failing at every turn, absorbing the life-stream, and drifting towards burning out.
Musically, the indie rock band has drawn up a great template. It’s a return to form for the Scottish trailblazers, a stab in the dark, but it all comes together smoothly. There’s more lyrical verve to this, more bite, more poetry, and bashful, but well-orchestrated instrumentals.
‘Sorry’ is a clear winner. The vocals are serene, and the lyrics describe hurt and a thick-skinned mentality. The melodies provide a subtle side, and the song highlights the band’s maturity.
‘Harder’ breaks through softly. The subject sits in with lost love, and the melodies again are on point, providing a sad song that has flair.
‘Meltdown’ carries the rock genre well. The vocals generate a subtle element, and the guitar sound brings it all together.
Twin Atlantic prove their worth, and they give people a song that they can confide in. They have gifted us an album which has all the rock charms, but also a vulnerability.
