Where is Kevin Lewis now?

From the creators of the Netflix documentary series Worst Roommate Ever comes Worst Ex Ever, a true crime docuseries that recounts the stories of various individuals who suffered at the hands of their partner.

Episode 4 of Worst Ex Ever shines a chilling spotlight on a man named Kevin Lewis.

The synopsis for the episode reads:

“Amanda and Kevin’s seemingly perfect romance crumbles when marriage exposes his controlling nature. After their divorce, a chilling murder plot unfolds.”

We take a brief look at the case in this article and ask the question: What happened to Kevin Lewis?

What did Kevin Lewis do?

In the fourth episode of Worst Ex Ever, we meet a woman named Amanda Canales, from Everett, WA.

She met Kevin Lewis in 2007 and formed a relationship with him after he pursued her romantically.

Some members of Amanda’s family liked Kevin but one person who didn’t was Amanda’s sister Alisha, who felt there was something “off” about him.

Despite Alisha’s reservations, Amanda still decided to marry Kevin. They got married in 2009 and went on to have three children together.

Kevin’s behaviour changed after they got married. He became controlling of Amanda and would put her down with nasty comments. By 2016, Amanda was tired of the way she was being treated and made plans to divorce him. This wasn’t news he wanted to hear but when he became violent towards her, she knew she had to get out of the marriage.

When Amanda left him and rented a house, Kevin called her constantly and asked her to come home. When she didn’t comply, he would be threatening towards her. At one point, he told her he would kill her if she didn’t grant him custody of the kids.

Amanda didn’t take his threats seriously…at least, not at first. In June 2017, she arrived at her home and was badly beaten by Kevin who approached her as she got out of her car. She managed to call the police before she passed out, but as she didn’t have time to get a look at her attacker, the police weren’t able to arrest Kevin for the assault.

Shortly after, Amanda filed a protection order at the courthouse. The police then handed Kevin a no-contact order, meaning he couldn’t speak to Amanda or his children.

This pushed Kevin to do the unthinkable. He hired his cousin Jerradon Phelps and a young woman named Alexis Hale to kill Amanda. But when the two arrived at Amanda’s door, it was her sister Alisha who answered as Amanda was away in New York for a work-related matter.

Jerradon shot and killed Alisha, not knowing that he was shooting the wrong person. The gunshot woke the children’s babysitter, who was also at the house. She came downstairs and found Alisha lying face down in a pool of blood.

At the time, the police weren’t able to connect Kevin to the murder. But they got a breakthrough in their case in 2019 when they heard Alexis had bragged about the murder at a party. They connected her to Jerradon who had taken pictures of himself waving around the cash he had been given by Kevin to kill Amanda.

The police checked the pair’s phones and discovered video footage of them driving to Amanda’s home to commit the murder. Using the information found on the phones, they also discovered they had met with Kevin before carrying out the killing.

In April 2019, the police interrogated Jerradon. During the meeting, he confessed to the crime.

What happened to Kevin Lewis, Alexis Hale, and Jerradon Phelps?

In July 2020, Phelps was sentenced to 31 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Alisha. Hale was found guilty of the same charge and was given 15 years in prison.

In November 2021, Kevin Lewis was found guilty of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
