Episode 2 of Worst Ex Ever shines a chilling spotlight on a man named Jerry Ramrattan.

The synopsis for the episode reads:

“After Seemona learns her boyfriend, Jerry, lied about his identity, she breaks things off — only for him to launch a campaign of torment against her.”

We take a brief look at the case in this article and ask the question: What happened to Jerry Ramrattan?

What did Jerry Ramrattan do?

In June 2006, Jerry Ramrattan became friends with a restaurant owner named Seemona Sumasar, who worked in Queens, New York. He told her he was a cop and that he did consulting work for the Brooklyn DA’s office.

After their initial meeting, he regularly turned up at Seemona’s business and did random things to help her. In 2007, after their friendship had escalated, they started to date. Eventually, he would stay over at her house.

In August 2008, Seemona was called by Jerry’s estranged wife who told her that Jerry wasn’t a cop. Seemona confronted him about his lies and broke the relationship off.

In March 2009, Seemona asked Jerry to return the keys to her house. He arrived at her home but instead of following her requests, he pushed her face down, put duct tape over her mouth and then dragged her down into the basement. He then raped her.

When Jerry left the house, Seemona called Queens County police and told them about the rape. Jerry was arrested and then released on bail.

On May 21, 2010, two months before Jerry was due to face trial, Seemona was arrested and taken to the Long Island police precinct by two Nassau County detectives. They interrogated her and told her to confess to an undisclosed crime. Seemona had nothing to confess as she didn’t know why she was being held.

A short while later, she was informed that she was being held on suspicion of being a cop impersonator who had orchestrated several robberies.

Seemona was innocent of these crimes, a fact that later became known when the police discovered Jerry had framed her. He had asked three people – Rajive Mohanlal, Luz Johnson and Terrell Lovell – to tell police that she had robbed them while dressed as a cop.

Jerry did this because he wanted to discredit her in court. If the jury thought she was a criminal, he suspected they might assume she was lying about being raped.

Thankfully, an ex-girlfriend of Jerry’s, who knew about his plan to frame Seemona, contacted the police and provided them with the relevant information.

After spending seven months in jail awaiting trial for her supposed crime, Seemona was released.

What happened to Jerry Ramrattan?

Jerry Ramrattan stood trial in 2011. In court, his ex-girlfriend, the people he hired to lie about being robbed, and Seemona, gave testimony against him.

When making his ruling, the judge called Jerry a “violent rapist” and a “sinister manipulator.” Jerry was then given a 32-year prison sentence – 25 years for rape and 7 years for conspiracy.

At the time of writing, it’s believed that Jerry is still serving time for his crimes.

After the court case, Seemona sued the Nassau County police department for false arrest. She was eventually paid two million dollars in compensation.
