I’m totally screwed!
Episode 2 of True Beauty begins with Jugyeong reflecting on her encounter with Semi at her former school. Jugeyong heads to the river and wonders what she did to deserve such treatment. Suho is nearby and asks Jugyeong to keep it down. Jugyeong argues with Suho and flees the area. While running, Jugyeong ponders her previous encounters with Suho.
We return to the scene we left off on in episode 1. Suho asks Jugyeong if she’s the same girl from the bookstore. Jugyeong says she’s not the same person. Also, Jugyeong says the earbud Suho’s showing her isn’t hers either. Suho takes Jugyeong’s other earbud and says she’s listening to the same Heavy Metal song.
Jugyeong argues with Suho further but her argument proves Suho’s point that she is the bookstore girl. Jugyeong heads home defeated. She wonders what will happen if the truth about her “true” appearance is revealed.
Jugyeong visits the bookstore and begs Suho to keep her “bare face” identity a secret. She promises she’ll do anything for Suho if he keeps everything a secret. Suho accepts Jugyeong’s deal. Jugyeong meets with Suho later to deliver his comic books.
The next day, we learn Jugyeong’s Suho’s errand girl. Jugyeong continues delivering more goods to Suho and Suho keeps bothering her about her tasks. Jugyeong walks through the school’s hallway and eavesdrops on everyone’s conversation about her and Suho’s companionship.
She visits a different classroom and Chaerin and Sua are present inside. The girls notice that Jugyeong and Suho have gotten close. Jugyeong develops a plan. She argues if she tells the girls Suho’s bothering her, they’ll rally together and convince Suho to leave Jugyeong alone.
Before Jugyeong tells Sua and Chaerin about Suho’s mistreatment of her, Sua and Chaerin state many folks wouldn’t mind being bullied by Suho. Jugyeong gives up and listens to Sua and Chaerin’s conversation about Suho. They confirm that Suho used to be a different guy in middle school.
However, Suho’s Korea trip changed him. Before Sua, Chaerin, and Jugyeong depart somewhere, Jugyeong receives a text from Suho. Suho wants Jugyeong to report to the acting department. At the department, Suho gives Jugyeong his phone and asks her to film him for his acting assignment.
As Suho performs, Jugyeong realizes Suho’s a lot nicer when he’s acting. After that, Suho and Jugyeong visit the theater because Jugyeong ruined his mood. At the theater, Jugyeong suggests they watch a horror movie together. The two enter the cinema and Sujin notices Suho from afar.
Later, Jugyeong reflects on her latest encounters with Suho. Jugyeong’s starting to grow fond of Suho. Then, Juyong arrives and demands Jugyeong to buy him a hamburger. Jugyeong visits Burger Cat to buy Juyong his meal. Semi and her friend arrive at Burger Cat. They belittle Jugyeong in front of everyone and Jugeyong departs.
Jugyeong reflects on Semi’s statements and how Semi’s boyfriend and Suho treated her. Suho calls Jugyeong and Jugyeong tells her to leave her alone. Jugyeong argues he’s treating her the same as her bullies did. Jugyeong ends the phone call and realizes she dropped her wallet at Burger Cat.
Seojun and his friends find Jugyeong’s wallet at Burger Cat. Jugyeong arrives and grabs her wallet from Seojun’s hand. The next day, Sua and Chaerin tell Jugyeong she got the most likes out of everyone who is competing in the Goddess competition.
Then, the two girls notice Suho and Seojun from afar. Seojun and Suho are about to fight. Seojun and Suho notice Jugyeong and she’s concerned. The episode closes with Jugeyong telling the audience she’s concerned because Suho and Seojun saw her without makeup.
The Episode Review
This episode of True Beauty offers fans a slightly better experience than the first one. The voice acting in this one is more tolerable and this chapter contains some comical tidbits that’ll make folks chuckle, in a good way. Jugeyong’s reactions to Suho’s selfish desires are a great example of that.
Anyone who was forced to perform errands for strangers, friends, or family in the past will resonate with Jugyeong’s stance on it. Next, Semi and her friend returned to the narrative. This shows audiences that the bully plot point hasn’t been discarded yet.
Fans may receive a genuine resolution behind Semi and Jugyeong’s feud in the future. Hopefully, it’s written and handled properly and not rushed. Speaking of, the pacing of this chapter felt off in ways. This chapter’s introductory flashback segment felt unnecessary and made matters slightly confusing.
Also, it’s strange that Jugeyong’s ahead of Sujin in the Goddess competition. It’s bizarre considering how much Sua and Chaerin built up Sujin as this formidable competitor. That aside, the tidbit about Suho’s past and Seojun’s comment about Suho being a murderer is interesting.
Hopefully, that statement leads to something noteworthy. But all in all, fans will find this episode more satisfying to watch than the last one.
