True Beauty – Season 1 Episode 12 Recap & Review

Goddess Livestream 2

Episode 12 of True Beauty begins with a flashback. In it, Sujin confronts Semi and her friends. Sujin shows Semi the picture Semi sent her, depicting Jugyeong’s ugly side—the two visit Cafe Miyu to discuss the situation. Semi wants Sujin to help her and the others expose Jugyeong’s true face to the world.

Sujin’s unsure about it but Semi suggests Sujin move forward with this. Semi tells Sujin that Jugyeong’s friend Chaerin will help them expose Jugyeong. Sujin’s okay with that and wants Semi to elaborate on the plan. Then, we return to the present timeline.

Jugyeong is tied up and asks Chaerin what’s going on. Semi tells Jugyeong Chaerin’s backstabbing her. Chaerin films Semi wiping off Jugyeong’s makeup. Semi orders Jugyeong to stay in the room until they show the world the video they recorded.

Chaerin and Semi depart. At the same time, Sua eavesdrops on some viewers’ conversations about Jugyeong. Sua heads to Jugyeong’s live broadcast station. There, Sua tells the live stream’s viewers that Jugyeong will return and that Sujin spread lies about Jugyeong. The viewers don’t believe her.

Sujin laughs during her stream and checks her phone. Suho enters the room and starts removing Sujin’s live stream equipment. Suho tells Sujin to tell everyone the truth and he attempts to depart. Sujin says if Suho leaves, she’ll expose Jugyeong’s face to the world.

Suho says he doesn’t care because he didn’t plan to keep his promise to Sujin. Suho departs. Sujin texts Semi. She wants Semi to send Jugeyong’s expose video. Semi says she can’t because they didn’t film it correctly. She asks Sujin to visit the girls’ restroom.

Meanwhile, Jugyeong ponders in the girls’ restroom. Sujin arrives and bullies Jugyeong. She lists why she hates Jugyeong and has no issue bullying her. Jugyeong smiles and shows Sujin a necklace. Then, we enter a flashback. In it, Chaerin receives a text from Semi.

Semi sent Chaerin a video of Jugyeong’s ugly side. Sua’s enraged but Chaerin tells Sua they shouldn’t provoke Semi.  She also doesn’t want the video to spread to other people. Sua wonders what they should do. Chaerin insists they let Suho help them.

Chaerin texts Semi and tells her she’ll help her expose Jugyeong. Chaerin tells Sua she’ll act as a double agent. Then, we enter the same flashback where Semi and Sujin met up at Cafe Miyu. Semi introduces Chaerin to Sujin. Chaerin secretly calls Suho and Suho listens in on their discussion.

Then, we enter another flashback. In it, Chaerin, Sua, and Jugyeong are in a car. They are heading toward the live-stream broadcast site. Chaerin hands Jugyeong a necklace. Chaerin video calls Suho. Suho explains the necklace’s significance and shares other details with Jugyeong.

Jugyeong understands. We return to the present timeline. In it, Jugyeong tells Sua to disrupt Sujin’s broadcast. We learn the necklace had a hidden camera inside it. On the broadcast, the viewers learn about what happened between Jugyeong and Sujin in the girls’ restroom.

Jugyeong departs. Sujin tries to save her public image on her stream but no one trusts her anymore. She throws her phone to the ground and yells in defeat. Meanwhile, Jugyeong runs through the hallway and stops at a mirror. She reflects on everything that’s happened to her since transferring schools.

Jugyeong notices Suho and rushes into his arms. The episode ends with Jugyeong winning the Sebbom Goddess Competition.

The Episode Review

With careful planning and execution, Jugyeong and her friends expose Sujin for the cruel person she is. Additionally, Jugyeong found a way to claim victory over her rival. Seeing Jugeyong celebrate with Suho, Sua, Chaerin, and others may make certain fans happy.

At the same time, this episode’s structure was off. While the episode addresses fans’ questions regarding certain developments, it all felt disorganized and rushed. Moreover, seeing Semi throw Sujin under the bus was odd.

She was just as cruel to Jugyeong as Sujin was. For her to get away without some form of punishment felt strange. It also doesn’t fit with her character to pull a complete one-eighty near the episode’s ending. Therefore, many fans will have issues with how certain character arcs are handled.

The decisions made concerning this episode’s storytelling may bug viewers too. Also, some fans may have gripes with episode 12’s outcome. Jugyeong reuniting with her friends in her attractive state was disappointing. It’d been better if Jugyeong had regrouped with them with her non-makeup appearance.

It’d be a great way to show audiences they should judge others on their inner qualities, not their outer ones.
