Level Opening
The Tomb of Qualopec is where you’ll find the first piece of the Scion. It’s going to be an easy mission, right? Erm… no! You soon discover why when you enter the room pictured above. There are three exits but only the one ahead of you is open. When you take the only available route, a boulder will begin to roll toward you, Indiana-Jones style, so run back down to the main room and move to the left or right to avoid being flattened.
After escaping a crushing fate, pull the switch on the wall next to the entrance. The right-hand side door has now been opened but you won’t be able to go through just yet as two raptors will come charging at you. Kill them before they kill you and then go through the newly-opened exit.
You will then come to an intersection with three doorways. Behind each is an area that contains a switch. These switches open the three gates barring the left exit in the main room, but as expected, getting to them won’t be easy.
Doorway of the Face
Go through the doorway with the face above it and follow the passage until you get to a room with a moveable block (see image above). Push this forward twice and you’ll discover another moveable block to your left. Push this block once to reveal a short passage with a switch on the other end.
Run along the breakable tiles beneath you and pull the switch that lifts one of the three gates. You now need to return to the intersection but watch out for the spiky pit that was below the collapsing tiles. Do a standing jump to avoid becoming a pin cushion.
Doorway of the Sun
Return to the intersection and pass through the doorway with the picture of a sun above it. Follow the passageway until you come to a small alcove with a switch. You don’t need to pull it (as Admiral Ackbar might say – it’s a trap), so instead stand on the tiles until they begin to break. Leave the alcove before you fall, and then step backwards into the hole you have just created. Hang from the ledge before you drop down to reduce damage.
Three wolves will attack you so dispose of them with your pistols and then climb the ramp via the left or right side (it doesn’t matter which). Pull the block (see image) from the wall and then head to the left or right of it to push it to the side. This will reveal a passageway that you need to follow.
Partway through the passage you will discover a medipack in an area below you. Grab this all-important health item, lift yourself onto the ledge and then continue up the steps until you get to a room with a switch.
Pull the switch to open the second gate and grab the small medipack in the room before you drop through the opening.
Doorway of the Bird
Back at the intersection, head through the doorway with the bird image and go up the stairs. You’ll see a switch in the room you come to but you can leave this for now. Instead, drop down into the next room which contains a pair of large columns.
Head to the left and run up the stairs. Step out onto Column 1 and turn to face right. At the edge of the column, do a standing jump to reach the opening in front of you. Climb up the ledges, follow the passageway and then drop down twice. You will then come to an opening where you can stand on Column 2. As before, turn to face your right and jump the gap. Move forward and pull a switch that will cause Column 1 to move.
Run back, drop onto Column 2 and then drop down to the floor. To your left is a small ramp which will help you reach the opening above. After climbing up, pull the switch you ignored earlier. This will move Column 2.
Head down the passage to the right of the switch and climb up the ledges before dropping down into the alcove. The columns are now in a position where you can jump on them (see image above). Take a running jump across each column and do a diagonal jump from the second column to the room on the right.
In here is the switch that lifts the third gate. Pull it and then return to the intersection the way you came in. You now need to return to the main room but watch out – there is a hungry raptor prowling the area. Kill the beast and render its kind extinct!
Qualopec’s Tomb
From the main room, head down the passageway with the raised gates. You will enter a hallway with statues on either side and dart traps. When you come to the stairs, turn left at the first step and jump up to the statue. Behind the statue is a room containing the first secret – shotgun shells (or the shotgun if you didn’t pick it up in the last level).
The tiles in this room break away, revealing a pit of spikes below. Drop down, grab onto the ledge and shimmy along until you get to a point where there are no spikes beneath you. Drop to the floor to find secret 2 – some magnum clips.
Walk (not run) through the spikes and then lift yourself up to the ledge above. Keep moving to return to the hallway and continue up the stairs. You will then enter Qualopec’s Tomb which contains the first piece of the Scion. Grab it and run through the gate as the roof starts to collapse above you.
Run through the main room and go through the doorway that you entered at the beginning of the level. Follow the passage through the caves and then jump into the lake at the end. There’s an opening beneath the water to the right that will lead you to secret 3 – a large medipack and magnum clips.
Return to the water and surface at the lake edge. You’ll encounter Larson here and sadly, he’s not here for a friendly chat. Instead, he will start shooting at you. Before you shoot back, head through the opening pictured above and navigate the rocks until you find secret 4 – a large medipack.
You can’t go any further due to a cave-in so return to the lake and shoot at Larson until a cutscene begins. Following this scene (which we won’t spoil here), the level ends.
