Three Women – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review

Cord

Three Women episode 2 reunites us with Lina. She is still obsessing over her high-school crush, Aidan, and has been stalking him online for weeks. She has been contemplating reaching out to him but is hesitant. Lina’s memories with Aidan feel like a secret pleasure and treasure. However, she is letting it consume her too much. She can’t stop masturbating when she thinks of him.

On one of her secret rendezvous, she does it too much and her heart nearly gives out. She ends up calling the paramedics but luckily; it is nothing serious. Still, her husband ignores her call for help and insists she is faking her pain for attention. He doesn’t even care to ask how she is doing.

One Sunday after church, Lina heads for lunch with her family. Her sister and mom give her a hard time. Lina feels like her family is taking her husband’s side. They also disagree on politics and Lina has a hard time explaining her position to her family.

In her next appointment with Dr Henry, Lina tells him about Aidan. The doctor advises her to join a local women’s group to help deal with her anxiety and life issues.

As the days go by, Lina starts getting tired of over-compensating for her husband. She talks to him about attending an old high school friend’s wedding. His mean response leads to her leaving for the Women’s group.

Meanwhile, Gia tells Dr Henry that she is scared to lead the women’s group, but he assures her. In the first session, the women start easy, getting to know each other and chit-chatting. They talk about the men in their lives and their sex lives.

Lina talks about her intimate issues with her husband and admits she is struggling in the marriage. She brings out the book she is currently reading. It is a book that Gia left in Dr Henry’s office and Lina can relate to the story.

The book made her realise that her marriage is dying, and she wants out if Ed continues to act a fool. Gia keenly listens to Lina while taking notes and advising her. Lina also talks about Aidan and admits she is conflicted about cheating on Ed. After the meeting, Gia tries to talk to Lina but misses her chance.

On her drive back home, Lina is consumed by her fond memories of her first kiss with Aidan. Later that night, she gets a message from Aidan, inviting her for drinks if she is ever in town. Aidan leaves in the neighbouring town and is thrilled to reconnect with Lina. After seeing his message, Lina RSVP to her old friend’s wedding.

The next day, she wakes up feeling happy, refreshed and gets ready for a date with her girls. She leaves a grumbling Ed with the kids. The girlfriend date goes so well and Lina reaches out to Aidan.

They meet up at a motel and have mind-blowing sex even though Lina is on her period. Aidan leaves immediately after, making Lina feel self-conscious for a brief moment. However, she follows him out and they share a romantic kiss. The kiss makes Lina feel happy since she has been longing for someone to kiss her like that. The sex also helped with her body pain, and she feels amazing.

In her next meeting with the women’s group, she tells them all about her affair with Aidan. The women judge her harshly for cheating on her husband, but Lina doesn’t care. She is happy to be pain-free and satisfied. She walks out and Gia follows her. Gia asks for a ride and apologises to Lina. She is aware that Lina felt slut-shamed.

They talk about the men they have slept with and the two women bond over their current life struggles. Gia admits she is about to be sued for not writing her book in time. She asks Lina if she would be interested in being in her book. Gia finds Lina’s perspective on love so refreshing and raw. Lina confesses that while her story with Aidan is not exactly a fairytale, she is happy with him.

However, we later learn that something happened to Lina in high school. Something that she went to great lengths to hide from Aidan at the time.  Whatever it was, it seems that she has put it behind her and wants to keep seeing Aidan. The episode ends with them meeting out in the fields.

The Episode Review

This episode focused solely on Lina and how she ended up having an affair with Aidan. Ed has been frustrating her. His cold demeanour and arrogance have worn Lina’s patience thin. While we don’t support her decision to step out of her marriage; it is her business. The women in the group were too harsh and slut-shaming Lina is not the right way to go about the situation.

We also saw a vulnerable side to Gia. She is struggling too. In a way, I think Gia sees pieces of herself in these three women. She can relate to their struggles and dreams as a fellow woman. I also agree that Lina is an interesting subject.

It is understandable why Gia wants to write about her. Lina reminds us about how much we want to be loved and how hard it is to get the gentle love and care we crave so much. On all accounts, Lina is too relatable, real and unapologetically herself. She is not scared to admit what she wants.
