Episode 6
Episode 6 of The Worst of Evil starts with Hae-ryeon calling Gi-cheul on the phone, asking why he was absent from their upcoming meeting. Gi-cheul states that one of his men was on standby at the hotel to ensure the deal would go smoothly. He then goes back to his meal with Eui-jeong.
Gi-cheul tells Eui-jeong that he skipped town all those years ago because he did not want to disappoint her after what his mother had done. He reminds Eui-jeong of a promise he made years ago, wherein he mentioned that he would marry her once he had a few successful businesses.
Eui-jeong wonders if Gi-cheul is successful enough and asks a few questions about Gi-cheul’s businesses. Gi-cheul diverts the conversation and reminds Eui-jeong of their teenage years. After the meal, Eui-jeong recalls how teenager Gi-cheul was determined to become someone who was never looked down upon. Gi-cheul shows up at the hotel for the meeting with Hae-ryeon who is here on behalf of Professor Yoon.
Jun-mo waits with Hae-ryeon’s bodyguard while Gi-cheul talks business with her. He asks her to partner with Korea instead of Japan, promising to buy 10kg worth of “goods” every month. Hae-ryeon leaves without a word and Gi-cheul appears troubled.
Just then, Gi-cheul gets a call from Oyama who asks to meet him the following day. Gi-cheul is shocked to learn that Oyama was in Korea without his knowledge. Jun-mo meets with Chang-sik and Do-hyung to discuss their plan of action. Chang-sik mentions that both the Japanese and the Chinese clients are staying at the same restaurant.
The cops assume that a three-way deal between Korea, China and Japan is in the works. They assume that Gi-cheul is the centre of this drug deal. After the discussion, Jun-mo asks Chang-sik if Eui-jeong can stop meeting Gi-cheul as he is uncomfortable with his wife hanging out with the gang leader.
Meanwhile, Manager Cho’s friends – Smith and Baby show up at the Gangnam police station and file a complaint about their missing boss. They tell Officer Min-goo all about Gi-cheul’s gang and their involvement in Manager Cho’s abduction. Oyama calls Gi-cheul to the meeting with one bodyguard only. Gi-cheul picks Jun-mo (Seung-ho) as the person that will join him at the meeting.
On their way out, Min-goo and his partner, Detective Go spot them and try to heckle Jun-mo, asking him if he knew who Yankees was. As Gi-cheul comes out of the car, Jung-bae and Hee-sung come out of the men’s club too. They tell Min-goo that they had no idea who Yankees was.
Gi-cheul’s attitude does not sit well with the cops and Min-goo warns him. Jun-mo tries to smarttalk the cop before they leave for their meeting. As Gi-cheul and Jun-mo leave for the meeting with Oyama, Min-goo and Detective Go follow after their car, hoping to find something there.
Chang-sik’s team are disguised, patrolling the hotel before the upcoming meeting. Jun-mo and Gi-cheul show up for the meeting at the same time as Hae-ryeon. The guard pats down Hae-ryeon and her guard as well as Gi-cheul and Jun-mo. As the guar pats Jun-mo down, Do-hyung asks the patrolling team to ring the hotel’s fire alarm to save Jun-mo from being exposed for carrying a microphone.
The fire alarm alerts Oyama as well while Jun-mo hides in the fire exit and hides the microphone in his cigarette box. Jun-mo manages to go inside the meeting room as the three bodyguards wait in a different room while Oyama, Gi-cheul and Hae-ryeon crack the deal. Jun-mo tries to overhear the conversation but Oyama’s guard turns on loud classical music, hindering him or the guards from hearing anything.
During the meeting, Oyama tells Gi-cheul that he was afraid that the cops were trying to find invade the business. He accuses Gi-cheul of being involved with the cops and asks him to go stand in the hotel lobby with the bag full of drugs to see if the cops will show up to catch him.
After Gi-cheul leaves, Oyama tells Hae-ryeon that they should betray Gi-cheul and stop paying him as the middleman. He offered direct trade between China and Japan, eliminating Korea and Gi-cheul’s involvement. He asks Kanemoto to talk to Hae-ryeon.
Meanwhile, Gi-cheul and Jun-mo stand outside the restaurant as per Oyama’s command. Min-go and Detective Go wait to see what the two are up to. On the other hand, Jong-ryul, Jung-bae and Hee-sung show up outside the restaurant, worried that Min-goo will ruin the deal. Jung-bae notices Do-hyung in the cop car and finds something odd.
Before he can inspect it, Gi-cheul and Jun-mo come out of the restaurant to wait for a while. While they wait out, Hae-ryeon talks to Kanemoto on the phone and the latter asks Hae-ryeon to make a direct deal between Japan and China. As he was afraid about the cops looking into Gi-cheul, Kanemoto feared his name being caught up in the mess. He offers a 15% raise in the deal and asks Hae-ryeon to export the drugs directly to Japan instead of sending them via Gi-cheul.
Gi-cheul goes back inside the hotel but Min-goo gets out of his car to follow him. Jong-ryul and Hee-sung try to stop the cop but Detective Go threatens to arrest them. As Gi-cheul talks to Oyama and Hae-ryeon, Min-goo shows up outside the room. Jun-mo warns Gi-cheul, asking him to wind up as soon as possible while he intercepts the cops.
Gi-cheul, Hae-ryeon and Oyama leave the hotel room to hideout somewhere while Jun-mo fights Min-goo. Do-hyung asks the cops to go in and arrest Min-goo, allowing some time for Jun-mo to escape. Jun-mo makes it back safely and waits out with Gi-cheul and the rest while Do-hyung learns that Min-goo is a cop.
Outside, Do-hyung notices that Jung-bae is suspiciously looking at his car and gets alert. Hee-sung and Jong-ryul come back out of the hotel room distracting Jung-bae. Meanwhile, Hae-ryeon meets Jun-mo and Gi-cheul and asks her guard to treat Jun-mo’s wound as he is bleeding out of it. She wonders why Jun-mo risked by messing with the cops and he reveals that he was worried that she’d be caught owing to her fake passport.
Hae-ryeon tells Gi-cheul that the Japanese were trying to cut him off. She tells Gi-cheul that she was not excited about the pay but was keen on loyalty. Hae-ryeon commends Jun-mo’s loyalty and calls Oyama, telling him that she would need a few days to respond to his request.
Oyama calls Gi-cheul on behalf of Kanemoto and reveals that Hae-ryeon’s decision didn’t matter to him. He reveals that their boss asked to halt the trade for a while as the cop showing up at the meeting was worrisome for Kanemoto. He promises to restart the trade only when he starts feeling safe again.
After the call ends, Hae-ryeon tells Gi-cheul that her decision would depend on Japan’s involvement in the trade as the customers for their products were mainly in Japan.
Since he is not able to find anything at the restaurant, Min-goo shows up at the men’s club looking for Gi-cheul. He asks the boys to open up and breaks the door down, beating the boys. Min-goo asks them to call Gi-cheul and knock one goon unconscious in the process.
Jung-bae tells Gi-cheul that the cops have trashed the place and the group is worried. Jun-mo offers to turn himself in as he caused the mess by fighting with Min-goo.
The episode ends with Jun-mo asking Gi-cheul to let him join the trade between China, Korea and Japan after he is finished dealing with Min-goo.
The Episode Review
This one is getting more and more interesting by the day and I am sure with 6 more episodes remaining in this one, this drama is about to get a lot more intense. We can expect a connection between Jun-mo and Hae-ryeon and this pairing is bound to get a lot of attention online all thanks to Bibi being the badass that she is.
The operation is no longer limited to the cartel in South Korea and Japan but with the addition of Professor Yoon’s character, it looks like the Chinese police will have to be involved. A weird feeling tells me that Eui-jeong may lose her life in the operation and that could possibly infuriate Jun-mo to the point that he goes on a killing rampage. If that doesn’t actually happen, I would love to see Ji Chang-wook in another action drama following this one.
