The Woman in the Wall Season 1 Episode 2

Ruth Wilson headlines this Paramount project, which is making its international debut. The Woman in the Wall focuses on the story of Lorna Brady, a victim of the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland. These “Mother and Baby Homes” were run illegally in the country, all under the nose of the State. The show is set in the small village town of Kilkinure and focuses on the homicide of Father Percy Sheehan, a person associated with these laundries.

Lorna and a few other women were victims of the Kilkinure convent, with which Percy is closely associated. Things get complicated when Lorna finds the body of Aoife Cassidy in her house, a nun who didn’t complete her final vows at the convent. But she has no idea how Aoife’s body got there, owing to Lorna’s sleepwalking habit.

What happened in Episode 2?

Episode 2 of The Woman in the Wall begins in the aftermath of Lorna burying Aofie’s body behind the wall of her living room. She uses her phone to contact Dara, Aoife’s struggling husband, who makes the trip from Dublin to Kilkinure to meet her. The police catch Dara on CCTV footage coming to the town on the same day as Percy’s murder. Akande and Massey suspect the duo are connected to the murder. Amy, who saw Lorna burn the car, doesn’t tell the police anything.

Dara and Lorna meet at a pub, where he grows wary of her genuineness. Massey is tracking Dara’s phone and the moment it is switched on, nabs him at the bar. But Lorna is able to escape. In custody, Dara takes the blame for Percy’s murder but his lie is caught out by Akande. He pleads with them to look for his wife and also describes Lorna’s appearance when Akande asks about the mysterious woman at the pub.

Lorna desperately wants to talk to Clemence about Aoife’s visit. She knows that Aoife left the note for her at the shop in Episode 1, saying she knows about Agnes. But David, Clemence’s brother, prevents that from happening. When Dara reveals that Percy and Aofie used to work together at the convent, Akande and Massey visit Sister Eileen, who was the Mother Superior at the time. However, she is less than forthcoming about Percy and Aoife.

Akande tries to press her for an answer but is stopped in his tracks by Massey. He breaks down in the car, revealing that he was born in a mother-and-baby home. During the meeting with James Coyle, it is revealed that Lorna snitched on Clemence, who wanted to run away with her baby. Lorna was manipulated by the nuns but now understands how unjust it was on her friend.

The episode ends with Akande watching Lorma burn the car on CCTV footage retrieved from one of the shops. In a more sinister development, Clemence commits suicide at her house, leaving Lorna without an answer about Agnes.
