The Sweepers – Episode 2 Recap
The recap of The Tyrant Episode 2 begins with a villager entering the forest. A humanoid monster attacks him but it explodes when the sun hits. The blood falls on the villager and he is infected.
Lim Sang arrives at the village and finds it empty as someone has paid for an all-expense trip. He pretends to be a reporter and questions the villager’s wife who has remained behind to look after her infected husband. The villager’s eyes are bloody and he panics when Lim shows him the photo of the test subject as it happens to be the same humanoid monster.
Lim kills him and his wife and then burns the home to prevent the virus from spreading. As he leaves, he sees that his next mission is eradicating Mo-yong and his men.
As for Ja-gyeong, she arrives at an underground clinic and with the promise of money, passes out. After she is stitched up, the doctor takes the cash and the sample. He calls his contact, Song and they learn that she has a bounty on her. The call is intercepted by Choi and NIS and both send their men in hopes of getting to Ja-gyeong first.
A group of thugs arrive first and kill the doctor. Ja-gyeong wonders who sent them but instead, she learns that they are the ones who killed her dad. It is barely a fair fight as she kills them all. She recalls Mo-yong’s men stabbing and shooting her before they threw her off the dam. As she gets ready to leave, she and her brother bicker over what clothes to wear.
She then puts on her mourning bow, takes the sample and heads out. Luckily for her, she escapes right in time a second group of men arrive. One of the groups belong to Choi who then puts Ja-gyeong on Lim’s list. As for Lim, he has been busy as he tracks down Mo-yong’s right-hand man. He kills his girlfriend and holds a knife to his neck as the right-hand man drives off.
Meanwhile, Choi finally meets Director Sa at NIS. Choi feigns ignorance about the whole program while Sa claims he will be caught once they investigate. But Sa is ready to strike a deal – Choi will not be held responsible if he returns the sample. He realises that the NIS are desperate as Head One is a sponsor. NIS plans to eliminate Choi’s team and give the program to Paul who will run it under Head One.
Choi refuses to cooperate and Sa threatens to take down his black ops team. Choi, of course, is not deterred as he has himself enlisted Lim to take out his people, and personally killed the professor. But when he leaves, his smile falls. We see that he is still seen as a respectable director at the NIS and he looks troubled. And with that, we end The Tyrant Episode 2 recap.
The Episode Review
The Tyrant Episode 2 keeps the crisp pace which is a bonus for a show like this. It definitely works better as a show than the initial plan to make it into a movie as there is way too much happening. Even when divided into 4 episodes, it feels a little overwhelming. There are times when one has to rewind to understand what is going on. In fact, it seems like it would be a better experience on a second watch as we can sit back and enjoy the story.
There is Lim Sang who has been hired by Choi’s men to get rid of all loose ends. Director Sa is the NIS representative who is very likely going to be working with Paul to take down Choi. The two groups at the clinic possibly belong to Choi and the NIS. But while Choi wants Ja-gyeong dead for cracking the safe, what does the NIS want with her? Do they even know her?
And also, what’s the point of Ja-gyeong’s DID? How does it affect the story? So, far it has been she has been the butt of the joke with her talking to herself in front of Mo-yong’s thugs and then bickering with herself on what to wear. If it is only for the comedy, the writers should have taken a different avenue.
