Chalothon Tries to Kill Phaya
Episode 9 of The Sign starts with Tharn taking Phaya to the hospital and Montree punishing the man who almost ruined his plan. Montree curses Tharn’s father because even after killing him, his son is becoming a nuisance and getting in the way of his business.
In a flashback, we see how Montree sent his man after Tharn’s father since he had evidence of Montree’s drug business, including the location. On the day they died, Tharn’s father was taking him and his mother to the countryside to stay with Tharn’s grandmother for their safety from Montree. The man driving the truck came to check if Tharn’s father was dead, and Tharn saw the spider tattoo on his wrist. Montree asks his man to take care of Kao’s case first and then deal with Tharn later.
Meanwhile, the team arrives at the hospital to check on Phaya, and they wonder how he drowned. The doctor updates that Phaya is experiencing a lack of oxygen in the brain and is transferred to the intensive care unit to receive oxygen, and they will not be able to see him tonight. The nurse gives Tharn Phaya’s clothes while Phaya is frantically looking for Tharn in the alternate dimension in his mind. Chalothon comforts Tharn that night, telling him not to blame himself for the accident, and he notices that Phaya does not have his amulet on.
The following day, the team tries to get Tharn to check on Phaya instead of staying at work, but he says he is okay since Phaya’s family is with him. Akk calls a meeting about the similarities between Kao and Lieutenant Tam’s case. Tharn tells them that the man he fought with in the woods had the same tattoo as the man who killed his parents, and he thinks that the man is connected to Montree.
Tharn tries to get Akk to issue a warrant so they can question Montree, but Akk tells him to find his evidence first and to separate work from personal matters or else he will remove him from the case.
Tharn does not heed Akk’s warning and insists on going after Montree. The boys do not let him go alone, and they follow him to Sigh, who has some information regarding the case of Tharn’s father. A shocking revelation is that Akk knew Tharn’s father since he took care of him after his brother committed suicide. The boys are unsure what to make of the situation since Akk has never mentioned that he knew Tharn’s father.
Meanwhile, in his office, Akk thinks back to when he met Tharn’s father during his brother’s funeral, and he promised to take care of him and treat him like his family. Akk goes through a file on his desk and calls someone, asking if Korn did it. The person asks if he should arrest him, and Akk tells him they should concentrate on the big case.
The boys arrive at the hospital to check on Phaya, who is still unconscious but stable. Tharn is heartbroken to see Phaya like that, but the boys comfort him and tell him that Phaya will do anything to return to him. Afterwards, Khem updates them about his investigation into the spider tattoo since he discovered that the gang that uses it are usually ex-cops. He has an address for a bar where they can find the manager in charge of the gang, and Tharn wants to go alone.
However, the boys will not let him, and he has to choose between either calling Akk and reporting the issue or allowing them to go with him. Tharn chooses the latter. Meanwhile, Chalothon is adamant about killing Phaya since he knows that he does not have the charm necklace to protect him.
The boys arrive at the bar and corner the manager while he steps out to freshen up after Yai spills his drink all over him. The manager is unwilling to give them any information, and they start a fight. He manages to dodge the boys and head out to the bar, where his men surround the boys. The manager slips out as they fight the gang, and Yai asks Tharn to run after him.
Outside, Tharn runs into a gang man with the spider tattoo and becomes more confused when he manages to see the man’s face, which is their old friend Chat. The boys run after him, but Tharn gets visions about Phaya, and he runs back to the hospital.
Phaya gets into a fight with Chalothon in the alternate dimension of his mind. The Abbot tries to stop Chalothon, but he is adamant, which causes Phaya to have a severe seizure. Tharn arrives to put the protection necklace on, and Chalothon lets him go. Phaya stops seizing and opened his eyes, glad that the first person he saw was Tharn. Chalothon can no longer touch him.
In the next scene, Akk finds out about the team investigating behind his back and is furious. Tharn says he will take the punishment on behalf of the team so they can continue to investigate and bring Montree to justice. He leaves his badge and gun at Akk’s office and goes home. At the same time, Phaya wakes up and remembers his dream about Tharn and their past together.
He leaves the hospital without the doctor’s authorisation and goes to Tharn. As soon as Tharn opens the door, Phaya hugs him, apologising for not recognising him earlier and letting him stay close to Chalothon. Phaya asks Tharn to remain by his side henceforth because, in Phaya’s words, “Because you are only mine.”
The Episode Review
The episode was as impressive as the last, and The Sign keeps setting the bar higher with each new episode. The boys continue to amaze us every time. Their chemistry bounces off the screen, and we cannot help but fall in love with their exceptional talent. They are so versatile that their demeanour changes, perfectly matching the mood of a scene. You will feel their joy when they are happy or playing; they will draw you into their sorrowful moments, and you will bawl your eyes out with them.
When it is back to serious investigation business, they turn into these super skilled detectives, whether gathering information or fighting through a bunch of gang men in a bar, without forgetting how they will make our hearts beat when they are in a romantic mood. The actors are so well-rounded, which is one of the most mesmerising aspects of each episode.
At the end of this chapter, we all ask ourselves, when will Tharn figure out that Chalothon is the villain? Also, will he trust Phaya when he tells him the truth? The episode ties up loose ends regarding Montree, Akk, and the connection to the death of Tharn’s parents. I especially love how each case is connected and not just individual cases added to the plot for the sake of. It shows that every little detail in this series is well-scripted and tied together to make this masterpiece. Do you think Chat is a bad guy working with Montree? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below.
