Sometimes Heads Break
The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy Episode 1 begins with Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech operating a person and saving a uni-eyed octopus-like creature. On the way out, Dr. Sleech walks by Matt and eyeballs him. They notice a new intern in the hospital, examining Turvis. Matt helps Dr. Sleech out, and they end up making out.
Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech get ready for their shift and are instantly introduced to Glurg, who has a huge lump on her forehead. They learn that she is extremely happy but has had a past of severe anxiety. They use a nanobot to examine the lump and find a parasite that feeds on cortisol.
Glurg recognizes Dr. Klak from the books her mom wrote about her broken brain. The nanobot tries to rip the parasite from the brain but is unsuccessful. The parasite retaliates, sending its tentacles out to attack everything outside.
They then get to know that Glurp has been to Dr. Azel. They decide to call Dr. Azel to consult her. They direct Dr. Vlad to talk to Dr. Plowp to help her with her patient.
Dr. Klak contacts Dr. Azel who indifferently expresses her wishes to report it. After the interaction, they gossip about her advanced technology while grabbing a meal. They sit down to discuss what the possible course of action could be and come to the conclusion that they can make the parasite starve for cortisol by creating an anxiety-free environment.
Meanwhile, Dr. Vlad enters the patient’s mind to bring him out of cryogenic freezing and has a conversation with him. Returning home, Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech isolate Glurg to create an anxiety-free environment. This agitates the parasite, who creates a monster to wreak havoc and make her anxious again. Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech kill the monster by stabbing it in the chest.
Dr. Vlad and Turvis travel to places he can imagine, spend time together, and eventually end up falling in love. They then make contact with touch, completing all six senses. This sets off a reaction that causes an earthquake. They realize that the more they connect, the calmer it gets. She begins to tell him about herself.
Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech make a plan to lure out the parasite by tempting it with Dr. Klak’s anxious mind and then nabbing it. They connect a tube with a barrier in between to capture it. They proceed with the setup, and Dr. Sleech triggers Dr. Klak’s anxiety. This lures out the worm, but it breaks through the barrier and enters Dr. Klak’s brain. Just then, Dr. Sleech snips its rear off and pulls out the rest of the body.
Dr. Klak exits the room with worm blood all over her and gets stopped by Flork and Flork. Dr. Vlad succeeds in bringing Turvis out of cryogenic freezing, but he is now unable to recall any relation with Dr. Vlad.
Dr. Sleech reveals that she kept the worm alive by stitching its body together and showing her the secure glass box it’s kept in. The worm transforms into a terrifying creature at the end of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy Episode 1.
The Episode Review
The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy Episode 1 introduces the main characters of the show and finds Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech dealing with a patient who has a parasite in her head. This is a particularly important matter, as the worm feeds on anxiety which is something Dr. Klak suffers from.
The episode doesn’t have anything awe-inspiring about it. If there’s anything to appreciate, that would be Dr. Sleech and Dr. Klak’s problem-solving abilities implemented to solve the patient’s problem. The two worked with what they knew about the parasite and innovatively used its characteristics against it.
The episode also had a side story ongoing and it served little to no purpose. However, had it not been there, the main storyline of the episode would have seemed too much of a drag and would have lost viewer engagement. Considering that, it made the episode a lot more watchable.
Apart from this, the humor is pretty basic and the storyline isn’t profound by any measure. This episode also revealed its outlook on sex and intimacy and will certainly not sit well with someone who believes in its sanctity. It has a clear degenerated outlook on sexual relationships, something that is rampant in modern times and is being fueled by the portrayal in such shows.
