The Heroes’ Banquet
The beginning of The Regime Episode 3 takes place two months after the point in time where we left off previously. In the previous episode, we witnessed Herbert’s rise to fame with the disclosure that he is a member of the founding family.
In this particular episode, Herbert is seen acting as if he is the second in command. He even goes so far as to demonstrate his supremacy over Elena by encouraging her to bring about reform in the nation. Eventually, he is successful in persuading her to take land away from those who are wealthy and give it to those who are less fortunate. In addition to this, he goes so far as to advocate for the use of worm-infested soil as a traditional treatment.
The other side of the coin is that Elena’s ministers and her husband Nicky are growing increasingly concerned about her tight relationship with Herbert. They worry that their strategy to hasten her infatuation, which would ultimately lead to boredom, is not actually working.
After that, we watch Elena as she picks flowers from the garden while proceeding to listen to the briefing. It is when she finds out that the attention of the media has entirely turned away from her that she starts to experience feelings of unease. It appears that she has a strong desire to be featured in the media regularly as a worthy adversary of the United States.
In addition to this, she brings this matter up with Herbert, stating that they need to take action on the Americans. On the other hand, he tells her that the issue has been settled and that they must move ahead with their lives.
Following that, we find Elena having second thoughts about the land reform that was announced previously. On the other hand, Herbert hurts her wrist and convinces her to go along with the plan. Not only that, but he also manages to get her to reveal to him the amount of money that she and the institution have taken from the ordinary people. Elena then proceeds to tell her husband that she is in agreement with Herbert on the fact that he must sleep in a different room. In light of this, she suggests that he spend a few nights sleeping in a different room.
After that, we see Elena throwing a party to commemorate the birthday of her father, who passed away. In the course of the celebration, Herbert extends an invitation to those people in the nation who are less privileged. This causes Elena a great deal of distress. Furthermore, in order for her to come to terms with the situation, he insists that she confess to them. On the other hand, her ministers rescue her from the torment at the very last moment.
Later that night, Elena has a dream in which she sees her father. Her dad continues to humiliate her by asserting that she is weak, much like her mother. After that, he continues by telling her that she must stop allowing herself to be easily swayed by other people. In addition to this, mentions Herbert and brings up the fact that Herbert is controlling her.
The following morning, Elena holds a meeting with her ministers and insists that they take action to put together a plan for reunification with the Faban corridor. Since she wants to put an end to the land reform, she acts in this manner. Herbert and her ministers are not pleased with the decision that she has made. In spite of this, Elena insists that they carry out her orders. On top of that, Elena requests that Herbert take the lead in the annexation.
The invasion of the Faban corridor is finally accomplished by the nation after a few weeks of preparation. Elena has lost interest in Herbert now that he has returned, which is exactly what Nicky had hoped would happen. Herbert finds this to be quite upsetting.
Additionally, Elena has started having normal food, much to Herbert’s disappointment. Even though NATO has the potential to harm the economy of the nation, Nicky is relieved that they have finally been able to get Herbert under control. On the other hand, the ministers are not overly pleased with Elena’s erratic actions and the potential impact that it could have on their paychecks.
This is followed by Elena throwing a party to commemorate the victory that she has achieved. We also witness Elena seeking to be China’s ally. Despite the fact that Herbert disapproves, she’s still determined about her decision. Later that night, Herbert sees Elena and the two of them have a back-and-forth regarding the new developments. Elena goes on to trash Herbert repeatedly and even calls him a butcher. This triggers Herbert, who proceeds to choke her in rage. However, he stops midway and goes downstairs to attack Emil.
Herbert is taken into custody the following day, as we witness. Agnes, the housekeeper, discloses to Elena that her son Oscar is not reacting positively to the medication that Herbert is administering to him. We then watch Elena flip out and put him on regular medicine. However, she takes Oscar under her wing and separates him from Agnes by informing her that she didn’t keep her updated on the issue and so she cannot trust her.
The Episode Review
In episode three, we see Herbert ascending to power and his eventual downfall. We also watch Elena become increasingly unstable and order the invasion of the Faban corridor. In addition to this, we witness Elena organizing a party to commemorate the birthday of her late father, and we also see her taking steps toward working with China.
Even though the show’s plot has been growing increasingly dark, it manages to maintain a lighthearted tone by taking a new and interesting approach to the subject matter. Furthermore, the characters and their arcs are immensely fascinating. The primary characters, including Elena and Herbert in particular, have twisted psyches, and it is mind-boggling to see how their thoughts manifest.
The actors continue to deliver outstanding performances in their respective roles. Both Kate Winslet, who is playing the primary role of the Chancellor, and Matthias Schoenaerts, who is playing the character of Herbert, absolutely steal the show with their breathtaking performances.
