I.D.N.W.T.B.D.I.
Episode 6 of The Recruit season 2 Lee-jin safely gets the team to Vladivostok, Russia. Meanwhile, Nichka acts like a Russian operative sent by the Russian gang to check on the Yamakazi clan. She demands a cut from their deal to sell Nan-hee and also asks to see proof of life. Mr Nakano agrees since technically they operate in Russia under the mercy of the Russian gang.
After verifying that Nan-hee is alive, Nichka calls Owen and updates him. However, she says the compound is a fortress and they won’t be able to get in. Owen decides that it would be best to lure the Yamakazi clan to meet them at sea, since it is illegal for K& R companies to operate on Russian soil.
It turns out that Nan-hee was kidnapped to keep her quiet about a drug deal she accidentally overheard. She is of no use to the clan since the deal is done, but they are open to selling her and making money instead of killing her.
Back at Langley, Nyland and Director West read Amelia in and prepared her to make a report claiming that the Russian mission was never sanctioned. In Korea, Grace Cho’s boss vows to arrest her for treason if she fails to get information from Janus and get Jang Kyung-kim back.
How does the rescue mission go?
Owen convinces Mr Nakano to meet them at sea, and Dawn prepares a team to execute Mr Nakano’s men. As for the money, they stuff books into a suitcase and lay some money on top to trick the Yamakazi clan. Everything is set in motion, and Jang Kyung-kim and Owen leave Lee-jin’s boat to meet with Mr Nakano at his yacht.
Jang Kyung-kim finally sees Nan-hee and signals her to act as if they don’t know each other. Unfortunately, just when Dawn and her team are about to launch an assault, the Russian coast guards show up. To avoid an international incident, Dawn and Lester pull back. Lee-jin tries to stop them, but they lock her up in the bathroom and steer the boat away.
Left on their own, Owen and Jang Kyung-kim fight for their lives on the yacht. Owen jumps into the sea while Jang Kyung-kim is shot and captured. He is unable to rescue his wife, and they are both taken away. Nichka acts as if she is there to uphold the Russian interest, but she has other motives. It turns out she betrayed Owen and the Americans and paid the Russian coast guards to show up at the right moment.
What happens after the failed mission?
Back at Langley, both Nyland and Amelia battle with the decision to nail Owen for everything. Amelia uses a video feed to watch the mission and is heartbroken when it fails. She reports the failure to Nyland and he orders her to protect the agency and re-paper Owen to take the full blame.
In the meantime, Violet meets with Grace in South Korea and convinces her to let Janus go. She agrees to help Grace save her career by blaming everything on Owen. Grace agrees and sets Janus free, but bans him from ever returning to Korea.
Dawn and Lester assume that Owen and Jang Kyung-kim are dead and drive away. However, Owen swims to safety and hides in a boathouse belonging to some Russian soldiers. He later wakes up to find two Russian soldiers arrive and manages to overpower them. He calls Lester and asks for help. Owen is adamant about rescuing Jang Kyung-kim and Nan-hee, even though Lester and Dawn are against it.
Lester agrees to send Nichka to help Owen. Nichka shows up and kills the soldier Owen had kept alive. She then pulls the gun on Owen and reveals her plan to hand him and Jang Kyung-kim over to the Russians. Currently, she has her men looking after Jang Kyung-kim and his wife at a nearby military airport. After learning Nichka’s plan, Owen fights back and knocks her out. He locks her in the car trunk and makes his way to the military airport. He also reports to Lester and refuses to meet him at the ex-fil location.
Lester gets a call from the Director and Nyland, and he informs them that Jang Kyung-kim has been captured, and Owen is going after him. Director West is frustrated because if Jang Kyung-kim is captured, it is useless to disarm the dead switch. Dawn offers to kill Jang Kyung-kim if she gets the Moscow position and a clean slate. Director West agrees, and Nyland leaves the room since he is against the plan. After Nyland leaves, Director West also gives orders to neutralise Owen.
At the same time, Jang Kyung-kim tries to prepare his wife for the torture and pain that is in their future. At this point, he has lost hope of being rescued and is surrendering to the bleak future. However, Nan-hee still has hope and is relieved when Owen quietly sneaks in.
How does The Recruit season 2 end?
Owen quietly sneaks into the airport and makes his way to Jang Kyung-kim and his wife. Meanwhile, on the boat, Dawn sends Dodge to kill Lester and Lee-jin while she handles Jang Kyung-kim and Owen. Thankfully, Lee-jin manages to escape through the toilet window. She circles back to attack Dodge and Lester and pins them down after knocking them with a fire extinguisher. She takes control of the boat and makes her way towards Owen.
On the other hand, Nichka frees herself from the car trunk and makes her way to the airport. She starts by killing Dawn before making her way to Owen, Jang Kyung-kim, and Nan-hee. Fortunately, the three are able to jump into the ocean and start swimming to safety. Lee-jin arrives to save them, and they quickly get on board. However, the Russian Coast Guard continues to pursue them. Suddenly, the American Navy submarine shows up and comes to their defence. Upon seeing the American Navy submarine, the Russian coast guard pulls away.
After getting first aid in the American Navy submarine, Jang Kyung-kim and Owen have an honest talk. Jang Kyung-kim thanks Owen for his help, and Owen tries to recruit him. Jang Kyung-kim accepts the offer, but is Owen in any position to be recruiting for the CIA?
The Episode Review
We all sighed in relief when the American Navy submarine showed up. However, Owen is not aware that the CIA has thrown him under the bus, even after he successfully completed the mission. We are also curious about that timely save by the American Navy submarine. Who sent them back up?
Our bet is on either Nyland or Amelia, but what does this mean for their career? With Dawn dead, it would be a better option to lay the blame on her. The ending leaves a lot of interpretation for what to expect in season 3. We might get to see Jang Kyun-kim again if the CIA agrees to turn him into an asset.
There is also hope for Owen with Lee-jin. Unlike Hannah, she is up to live life on the edge. She doesn’t expect much from Owen and is running away from her own demons. She and Owen would make a good team.
