The Queen Who Crowns – K-drama Episode 6 Recap & Review

Episode 6

Episode 6 of The Queen Who Crowns opens with Chae-ryeong suddenly rising from the bath upon noticing the wooden weapon in the Queen’s hand. The Queen allows her to leave on the condition that she doesn’t reveal anything about the Queen’s intelligence network to the King. Chae-ryeong upholds this agreement to secure her place in the palace.

The king later arrives at his in-laws’ house for the banquet, where he comments on its extravagance. In a brief private moment, he acknowledges the Queen’s aptitude for leadership, remarking that she would have made a fitting king.

Meanwhile, Chae-ryeong discovers she is carrying her first child, and her status in the palace is set to rise as the mother of the King’s child. The Queen sends her herbs to aid her health, but Chae-ryeong hesitates to accept them, recalling the Queen’s earlier threats. However, the Queen reassures her that her focus should be on her health, subtly indicating there’s no danger to her life.

Amidst these developments, Tae-jo’s rebel forces attack the kingdom. While the King seeks a way to quell the rebellion with minimal bloodshed, the Queen meets Pan-su, who delivers an important message.

The King decides to leave the palace to confront the rebellion. His aide, Ha-ryun, suggests placing the Queen’s father in charge during his absence to test the Min family’s loyalty. Meanwhile, Chae-ryeong clashes with Princess Hyosun, flaunting her impending rise in status.

However, she is taken aback to see the king favouring Hyosun due to her noble birth and powerful connections. Determined to solidify her position, Chae-ryeong begins seeking alliances with powerful ministers.

Elsewhere, Ha-ryun and Lee Suk-beom conspire to weaken the political and personal alliance between the King and Queen.

Hearing of the King’s departure for war, the Queen forces the head court lady to arrange a royal consummation that night. Despite initial reluctance, the court lady complies. The king and Queen share an intense and passionate night, during which the Queen informs the king that Tae-jo is vulnerable, staying with only his elite guards. She advises him to convince Tae-jo to surrender the rebellion, as he likely wishes to avoid further bloodshed.

The next day, the King confronts his father, Tae-jo, alone. In a tense exchange, he implores his father to abandon the rebellion, promising to follow his vision for the kingdom. The King expresses deep regret for the deaths of his siblings and pledges to create a just kingdom, even agreeing to move the capital back to Hanyang. Tae-jo, moved by his sincerity, relents and returns with the King.

The King subsequently orders the capital to be moved. Years pass, during which Chae-ryeong gives birth to a prince and forms an alliance with Lee Suk-beom. Meanwhile, the Queen gives birth to another prince.

The episode concludes with the royal couple arriving at their new palace in Hanyang. It is revealed that, under Tae-jo’s orders, the King is plotting to weaken the influence of the Queen’s powerful family, despite his reluctance to distance himself from her.

The Episode Review

This episode is packed with political intrigue and palace dynamics, maintaining the show’s gripping narrative. However, the abrupt time jumps, especially in the final sequences, make the timeline transitions somewhat jarring.

The royal couple’s relationship becomes increasingly complex in this episode, burdened by the weight of ruling a kingdom and the King’s ambitious reforms guided by his father.

The cliffhanger ending raises the stakes significantly, with the King torn between his love for the Queen and his duty to the nation. Chae-ryeong’s rise in status and alliance with Lee Suk-beom also sets the stage for more intense scheming, as she seeks to drive a wedge between the royal couple. The show is poised for even greater tension and drama in the next episode as the stakes continue to escalate.
