Alan is supposed to be an effective psychologist but it is becoming evident that he is an inconsequential mess, and a parent who missed the mark with his son. That same sort of character is on display while Alan is in captivity — he is a wimp and not much help to Sam.
Alan character arc will involve him becoming “physical” and not just “intellectual” — look for a physical fight for his life. Unless he grows a pair, Alan cannot expect to be freed to return to his normal life.
As a family with only extended basic cable tv, we think it STINKS for so many shows to only be offerred on streaming formats, only. We don’t have anything bigger than our smart phones to use the internet. We LOVE so many FX series, so it’s really a letdown if we can’t watch, for example – ” The Patient”!
Thanks for listening. Kim
This is such a compelling show. One question: Where are the police? Authorities should be searching for Dr. Strauss. Other patients will report he is missing. Police can easily find a list of Dr. Strauss’ patients and contact information. We know he is estranged from his son, who may not care, but in episode 1 Alan left a phone message for his daughter. There has to be a reason for that call in that flashback scene. Where is she?
It is entirely possible that Alan and Elias (not so much Elias, not looking good for him right now), will survive and Sam will be incarcerated in a rehabilitation facility. That’s how I see what’s going to happen… Naively of course [LaughOutLoud]
