The Passage Season 1 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Choices & Consequences

After last week’s dramatic episode, it was almost inevitable that The Passage would slow down a little to catch its breath. With more background and characterisation delivered through some slick editing and well worked flashbacks, The Passage looks set for a dramatic finish to its first season.

We begin with a look at Brad and Lila who find themselves tied up and bundled in the boot of a car en-route to destination unknown. While together, Brad reminisces about his old life in Illinois and the events that led up to his daughter dying. Intertwined around these flashbacks, we see Brad try to escape and get back to Amy at the facility. The echoes of his own grief toward his daughter is plain to see here and during these segments you really get a feel for just why this girl is so important to Brad.

Speaking of Amy, both her and Elizabeth find themselves at the mercy of Fanning’s viral influence this week, with the latter close to becoming a vampire. As Jonas races to find a cure, the rest of NOAH, and in particular Horace Guilder, plan the next stages of the Project and what this means for the subjects in the basement.

All of this builds toward a climactic finale that sees Elizabeth make one final choice in the end whilst Brad and Lila race back to the facility to save Amy. We’ll have to wait and see if it’s too late for her though as we find Amy fast asleep, under the power of Fanning’s influence who conjures up images of her Mum before arriving at the door in her dream himself.

While there isn’t a whole lot of plot development with the virals this week, we do see a good amount of back story for both of our main protagonists. As Richards makes clear which side he’s standing in the upcoming fight and all of our characters converge at the facility during the final minutes of the episode, The Passage looks set for a dramatic finale.

Given the pretty steady ratings over the past few weeks the fate of this show going forward is still up for debate but based on what we’ve seen so far, the final set of episodes look set to kick things into high gear and finish the season on a bang.
