XI
Episode 4 of The Old Man Season 2 picks up where we left off, with Parwana killing Omar. Things finally calm down and Khadija calls for a doctor for Faraz.
Unfortunately, the doctor gives Khadija a sign that Faraz won’t make it. In the meantime, Tarik tries and fails to get through the minister. Faraz asks for Parwana, and Tarik finds her comforting Farouk. Once they are all gathered, Tarik informs them that they most likely have 72 hours to leave the camp.
Meanwhile, Harold and Dan wait for Emily to come to them. Harold has been begging their pilot to be patient. Dan is sure she will come and Harold tries to assure him that Emily is well-equipped to handle killing a man.
Dan says that this time it was different, but before he can explain, Emily shows up with Farouk. She asks Dan and Harold to go back and convince Morgan Bote to unfreeze Faraz’s assets.
The villagers are vulnerable and they need that money to buy their safety. Even though she knows the history between these four men. She begs Harold and Dan to help her save the villagers. Dan and Harold agree to help.
They fly back to America and on the way back, Harold and Dan question if Angela has changed. Dan thinks that she killed Omar to prove her love for Faraz. He considers that Emily has experienced a transformation, with part of her dying and another part being born.
They also talk about the best way to approach Morgan. Given their history, Harold wants to be careful and tactical. However, Dan wants to go gun blazing and find answers quickly. Harold heavily scolds Dan for always choosing the violent approach.
Meanwhile, Faraz talks to Parwana and finally accepts her. He tells her that she belongs with them but can’t stay. He is worried about her safety as well as the villagers. He asks her to leave and find a different way to help him.
After her talk with Faraz, she formally meets Tarik. She tells him that Faraz asked her to join forces with him and help handle the business. Tarik asks Parwana to try to convince the villagers to leave instead of fighting. He wants a better life of peace and abundance for his people, believing can only achieve this if they leave the country.
Parwana refuses, saying that the land has roots and they need to protect it. She is also unsure that the villagers will follow her lead. She also doesn’t think peace and abundance isn’t for everyone. She admits that she had it but only drowned in it.
As they talk, Khadija comes out of Faraz’s room and announces he has died. She asks Parwana to choose if she will stay or leave. She knows Parwana lied about who shot Faraz but doesn’t blame her. Khadija wants to honour Faraz’s wishes and give Parwana a chance to choose without any blame.
Miles away in America, Harold and Dan make their way to Morgan’s house. Harold keeps ignoring Marianne’s calls, hoping she will go away. They arrive at Morgan’s and don’t receive quite the warm welcome. Harold takes the lead and updates Morgan on the situation. Morgan acts surprised to know that Emily is Faraz’s daughter. Harold asks him to reconsider, as his choice will endanger a lot of people, but Morgan refuses. He says that Harold and Dan have no idea what they have gotten into.
In a surprising turn of events, Zoe and Dan’s dogs appear. Apparently, once Zoe returned, she tried to go back to her life, but it was hard. She then reached out to Faraz’s lawyer but never got an answer.
Instead, she got a call from Morgan, who invited her into his home. Of course, Dan is surprised and angry that Morgan got Zoe involved. However, Morgan says that he is trying to stop a bigger disaster.
He is scared that Faraz has been working with the Russians to exploit the mine deposits in Afghanistan. Dan thinks it is impossible for Faraz to work with Suleyman Pavlovich. As they talk, Zoe receives a call from Faraz’s lawyer. The lawyer only wants to talk to Zoe and asks to meet her next week.
Unfortunately, time is not on their side. They can’t wait a week. Dan confronts Morgan and insists that he told him about Angela being Faraz’s daughter. The two men get into an argument, forcing Zoe and Harold to intervene.
Zoe asks Dan to leave and trust her to convince Morgan to help. After Dan leaves, Zoe tries to talk to Morgan. However, two assassins break into the house. Morgan manages to kill one of them, but is killed by the second one. Thankfully, Dan arrives just in time to save Zoe and kill the assassin.
The scene then cuts to Suleyman Pavlovich making plans to assassinate Dan and Harold. He is glad to receive photographic proof of Morgan’s death.
The Episode Review
Just when you think you know who is pulling the strings, the show introduces an even more sinister villain. All these men seem to be chasing after the same thing; money and power.
With Faraz out of the game, Pavlovich is moving to secure the mine deposits and enrich himself. He has already taken out Morgan, the only man who could have helped the villagers. Who will Dan and Harold turn to for help now?
Next week, we get to see what Parwana decides and how her decision will affect Harold and Dan. It will also be interesting to see Pavlovich’s plan. What is his end goal, and will Dan and Harold survive another assassination attack? At this point, these two old men are like cats, with nine lives each.
