Call Tracking
Episode 1 of Night Agent Season 2 takes us to Bangkok, Thailand where Peter and another agent, Alice, are on a mission. This time they are trailing a mysterious man, waiting to see who he meets up with. They think he is leaking intel to someone but don’t have the proof yet. The man is anxious and keeps checking for tails. They follow him to a temple and see him meet with a bald man. Peter and Alice decide to separate so they can each follow the targets.
Peter follows the first mysterious man to a different part of the streets and sees him hide a USB at a specific place. He then waits a few seconds and sees another man pick up the USB and decides to follow him.
Throughout all these, he is communicating with Alice, who is following the bald man. Unfortunately, it is a trap, and Peter and Alice are in trouble. They are cornered, and they each run to safety. Alice contacts the Night Action line to ask for an extraction. Seconds later, she contacts Peter and gives him the ex-fil location.
At this point, they are not sure how they got burned. However, what is important is that they need to make their way to the ex-fil location. Unfortunately, Alice is killed before she can get there, and Peter is cornered again.
He calls the Night Action line and asks to speak to the supervisor, Catherine Weaver. She is surprised to hear the mission went left and Alice is dead. Peter doesn’t have time to feel her in on all the details as the gang closes in on him. He manages to kill one of them, but he remains in danger. Ultimately, he is forced to jump into a river to save his life. Even more concerning is that he takes a hit before he jumps into the river.
Meanwhile, we circle back to one of the men Peter saw at the pick-up location. He seems to be the boss of the operation, and he is pleased to get his hands on the USB.
A month later, we reunite with Rose, who is struggling with therapy. She has been dealing with PTSD and has a hard time opening up to her therapist. She is not pleased when her therapist suggests she tries a different kind of therapy. Later, she heads to work.
She is now working for a tech company called Adverse, and they are looking to get funding for their new product. Adverse uses a picture or a name to create a precise advertising profile. Unfortunately, during a presentation to a possible investor, Rose keeps getting calls. She excuses herself to pick it up.
The call is from a strange man looking for Peter and claims that he is in trouble. This gets Rose’s attention, as she is worried about Peter. The man hangs up after learning that Peter has not been in touch with Rose. Rose immediately calls Michelle. Michelle sets up a meeting between Rose and Catherine. Unfortunately, Catherine has no answers for Rose.
It turns out Peter went MIA after the mission blew up. She has been looking for him and has a lot of questions for Rose. Rose is disappointed to hear Night Action is clueless about Peter’s whereabouts. However, Catherine insists they owe her no answers.
Feeling concerned, Rose decides to use Adverse to track down Peter. She gets a clue that he was recently in New York. She asks her boss for a temporary leave and promises to work remotely. She lies it is about her mom, and her boss agrees.
Meanwhile, we catch up with Peter currently hiding in New York and surveilling someone. He is also coaching this young boy, Ethan. Based on his interactions with Ethan, it is clear that Peter is hoping to get to Ethan’s dad. Ethan shares that he has been secretly talking to his dad on a secret messaging app.
Peter switches Ethan’s phone at the end of their basketball training and contacts Ethan’s dad. Of course, he pretends to be Ethan, and they set up a meeting. Ethan’s dad promises to get back to him later with more details about the meet-up location. As he waits, Peter sets everything up to capture and torture Ethan’s dad.
Back in Washington, the President is dealing with the stress and pressures of an election year. She meets up with the Night Action programme supervisors and insists that Catherine needs to find Peter. She is worried that Catherine is being biased against Peter because of his dad’s history.
Catherine clarifies that she is also concerned for Peter, since he has been MIA and his training was accelerated. She is worried that Peter might have mentally gone into the deep end. Since Peter was last seen in New York, the President asks Catherine to make her way there.
In the meantime, our girl Rose travels to New York and lies and manipulates her way to get any clues about Peter. She discovers that he now goes by the name David and is coaching Ethan. She tracks Ethan down, and he explains that David is running late. He is also eager to meet David since he has his phone. Rose offers to track the phone, since David is unreachable.
Later in the night, Peter lures Ethan’s dad, but things go south when his cover is blown. Ethan’s dad makes a run for it, but Peter corners him. A fight ensues, but when Ethan’s dad realises that Peter needs him alive, he makes a run for it. Peter chases after him and ends up running into Rose. Unfortunately, there is no time to catch up as a different man starts shooting at them.
The Episode Review
Peter Sutherland is back, and the first episode of Night Agent season 2 doesn’t disappoint. This season, Peter has a new boss and is now a newly trained Night Action agent. He is working under Catherine, and of course, things went south on his last mission. Given what he went through in the past, it makes sense why he went MIA after getting burned. Once bitten, twice shy.
It is too early in the game to ascertain if Catherine is different from Barr. Still, Peter is right not to trust anyone. How did the gang find out their ex-fil location? What was in the USB? Why did Ethan’s dad betray his country, and most importantly, who did he sell the intel to? There is a lot to dig into this season, and we can’t wait.
It is nice to see Rose and Peter reunite again. I love that the show didn’t sweep Rose’s traumatic experience under the rug. She is going to therapy, but it is not going well. She needs to talk about the trauma, but she can’t legally divulge what happened.
This is probably why she is still having a hard time processing everything and why her therapist wants her to try something else. Will her reunion with Peter help or trigger her?
