The New Look – Episode 5 “Give Your Heart and Soul to Me” Recap & Review

Give Your Heart and Soul to Me

Episode 5 of The New Look begins at the Theatre De L’opera, where people have gathered to mourn their loved ones who have died in the war or lost their lives because of the Nazis’ brutality. The host asks them to stand and remember whom they’ve lost, but Christian refuses to stand, convinced that his sister Catherine lives and will return to him. However, he cannot hold back his tears, and a few escapes under his eyes.

At the same party, he meets Georges Vigouroux, who offers Christian a job at his house, Philippe and Gaston. But Christian refuses, saying he likes working for Lucian Lelong. On the other hand, in Switzerland, Coco learns that Andre’s condition has worsened and will continue to worsen over time. The doctor directs them to his colleague in Denmark, who is working on an experimental treatment.

As the episode progresses, Christian interviews Cardin, an overly excited designer who claims to make dresses like no one else. Christian is delighted by his excitement, and it appears that he will be offering him a job. Christian also sees Lucian Lelong in his office, who requests him to sign the contract that has been sitting on Christian’s desk for four months.

Lelong tells him to accept his offer, or otherwise, he will have to look for replacements. When Christian conveys the same to his friends, they ask him not to hold onto false hope and accept the truth. However, Christian is sure that Catherine is alive. That same night, he receives a call from his father, who informs him that Catherine has been found.

On the other hand, Coco’s problems double when she learns that French officials are refusing to let her assets cross the border. This leaves her with no money to buy a house in Switzerland. She asks her lawyer to sell her assets in Paris and get her hard cash that she can use to buy a new home for Andre’s recovery. But this is just the tip of the iceberg, as Coco learns that The Wertheimers are producing her patented No. 5 perfume without her permission.

They’ve set up a factory somewhere in Paris, and Coco is told not to interfere, or she’ll attract more trouble. The Wertheimers were Coco’s partners, but she used the Aryan laws to sever her partnership with them, thanks to her Nazi connections. The situation is so dire that Coco doesn’t even have enough to pay her driver.

After months of living in fear the time comes for Christian to meet his dear sister. Unfortunately, she isn’t with the freed captives, nor is she among the ones who didn’t make the journey. This breaks Christian’s heart into a million pieces, and it appears that he has accepted that Catherine has died and will not be coming back. He also lashes out at the psychic, who told him that she had seen visions of Catherine and confirmed that she was alive.

The same night, Christian also calls Georges and asks him to set up a meeting with Boussac of Philippe and Gaston. At the meeting, Christian offers Boussac to let him open his own house so he can rejuvenate Paris again. On the other hand, Coco is betrayed by her own driver, who steals all the bottles of No. 5 perfume and leaves her stranded in the middle of the road. After hours of crying for help, someone agrees to give Coco a lift to her hotel.

Rene meets her there and informs her that they need more evidence to sue the Wertheimers, but Coco doesn’t listen and orders him to sue the Wertheimers anyway. When Christian returns home, he is told that Catherine has arrived. After a long wait, Christian finally sees his sister, who looks like a skeleton, as if she hasn’t eaten for months. Seeing this, Christian can’t hold back his tears.
