One Of Us Is Gonna Die Tonight
Episode 7 of THEM: The Scare begins with Athena and Dawn trying to take care of a scared Kel. He shares that he is seeing a red-haired man (most likely Edmund) and Dawn worries as whoever saw the man ended up dead. But Kel is not the only one being targeted. While Edmund messes with Kel, making him vomit out red thread, he leaves a Raggedy Ann doll for Athena in the basement.
Dawn’s ex calls her to check in but the phone line starts to distort and her recording where she tells Malcolm’s sister about her imaginary friend plays. At that moment, Athena rushes to tell Dawn about the doll and she canvases the whole house but doesn’t find anyone.
Athena finally voices her fear to Dawn – that it must be related to something she did in the past. Edmund is Dawn’s twin and Athena and her husband, Will had adopted them together. But Edmund used to throw tantrums and on the day Athena went out with Dawn, Edmund was found near Will’s dead body.
He soon got difficult to handle and Athena returned him to Ms. Mott. Dawn would scream for him constantly till Athena had to claim that the boy was not real but just an imaginary friend. A shocked Dawn tells Diaz to find Edmund but learns that he died in 1989.
She then heads to Kel’s room where he suddenly starts mocking her for leaving him home alone while she hooks up with Reggie. She is shocked only to realise that the real Kel has been locked inside a closet. As she comforts him, Edmund calls Athena and tells her to go to the toy store if she wants Dawn to live.
She looks sadly at Dawn and Kel before taking the Raggedy Ann doll and heading to the toy store. There, Edmund confronts her, berating her for sending him back to an abusive foster home when he was only 3. She apologises and claims she didn’t know about Ms. Mott’s nature and tries to fight back. But it ends quickly with Edmund beheading her.
The cops inform Dawn who rushes to the site with Kel. On seeing Athena’s head in the store, she is in a daze before she falls down at the end of THEM: The Scare Episode 7.
The Episode Review
THEM: The Scare Episode 7 is the perfect penultimate episode as it finally answers all of the questions but also makes us want to tune in for the finale. We understand why Dawn never wondered about Edmund and why this would make him hurt and angry. Not only is she the better-off twin, she doesn’t remember while he is haunted by their time at Mott’s house.
The random unconnected supernatural moments also turn out to be connected such as Athena being burdened with the guilt of leaving a 3-year-old in an abusive foster home. That ending was a pretty finale-worthy showdown so we wonder how they are going to top it in the next episode.
