The Mire: Millennium – Episode 2 Recap, & Review

Episode 2

Episode 2 begins with a strange man walking into the mortuary, asking to see the body of his departed friend, who happens to be the manager of the Centrum Hotel. The man is Jassiej, and he also visits the mayor, asking about Filip, the manager’s son’s whereabouts. Despite the manager running a brothel in his younger days, he loved Filip more than anything.

He genuinely cared for his son and wanted to give him a bright future. The scene shifts to Anna, who is reminded of a terrible memory from the past involving an accident. The accident resulted in Teresa’s death, who was riding shotgun with Anna that night. In the hospital, Mika visits Anna and requests her to talk to the Romani girl, asking who she is and where she has come from if Anna feels up to it.

Back in the city, Piotr’s daughter Wanda plans a weekend retreat with her friends. Piotr helps her pack and notices a hickey on her neck, leading him to lash out in anger. Joanna calms him down, providing an opportunity for a heart-to-heart with Wanda. Meanwhile, Matwiejska meets with a forensic expert to learn more about the bullet that killed the unidentified woman.

She is informed that the bullet is indeed German and was manufactured somewhere near East Germany. However, she is told to go to the capital for chemical analysis.

As the episode progresses, Piotr decides to grab a bite at a new restaurant owned by Marian Hanys. Marian informs them that their meal is on the house and asks Piotr to contact him if he ever needs anything. However, Piotr shows no interest and drops his daughter off at the train station. The situation escalates when Piotr receives a call informing him of his daughter’s disappearance.

He lodges a complaint, and the police show him CCTV footage where Wanda is seen getting into a car with a strange man. The police believe Wanda has rebelled and run off with her sweetheart, but Piotr suspects that there’s more to the situation. Anna meets the Romani girl in her hospital room.

The girl reveals that she is Maria and explains that she left home to pursue modelling and acting but was forced into prostitution and pornography instead. She was kept in a soundproof room with a slanted ceiling, similar to a converted attic. She was raped multiple times by perpetrators who were always masked. Maria also believes that the location where she was kept is near an airport, as she often saw planes taking off.

Eventually, Anna learns about her daughter’s disappearance and tries to break into Wanda’s computer but fails. Instead, she takes the entire computer so the techies at the police station can break into it and look for evidence or clues. But where is Wanda? As the episode nears its end, we see Wanda chained in the same white attic that Maria had described in her statement.

The Episode Review

In the second episode, we meet a new character named Jassiej, who seems to be a good friend of the Manager. He’s on a mission to find Filip, the Manager’s son. But why? Perhaps Jassiej knows something that could help Witold and the others solve the case of the Manager’s murder.

Jassiej’s interest in Witold at the hotel bar suggests that he might join forces with Witold to crack the case. It’s an exciting development that keeps us hooked for more.
