The last episode of The Manny Season 1 starts with Jimena on a call with her friend Brenda since she just found out in the previous episode that Gabriel is the son of one of the ranch owners her father’s company is seeking to seize. She thinks that Gabriel applied to become a nanny in her home because he knew who she was and wanted to get information on the seizure. Brenda thinks his plan is not all bad, but Jimena is heartbroken since she thinks everything between them was all for the ploy.
What were the discrepancies in the ranch deals about?
Brenda discovers that the account’s headquarters the ranchers were making payments to is at Tepatitlan. She and Brenda drive to look for the Western Trading offices and find out the indicated location is an empty building belonging to Lucia Navarrete, the mayor’s wife.
The ranchers have been making payments to a shell company, so the agency never got them. Someone is using the ranches and the agency to commit fraud, meaning that Navarrete and Rogelio are colluding to keep the money paid by the ranchers and also want to keep the ranches through the seizure.
What was Rogelio up to?
Rogelio thought he needed to get dirty to make profits for the agency and help his uncle with his political ambitions. He, therefore, made fraudulent deals with the mayor of Tepatitlan, Navarrete, to get his uncle a senator nomination once Navarrete since he was getting a promotion to head of a political party. The deal was to acquire and sell the Dos Camino ranches to Navarrete cheaply. Jimena confronts Rogelio, and realising his fraudulent methods have been discovered, he leaves the agency.
Does Gabriel’s family keep their ranch?
The following morning, after Jimena arrives at the ranch to tell Gabriel’s father about the fraud and promises she will ensure that the ranches are not seized, the police arrive with warrants to take the ranches. Gabriel’s father accuses Jimena of deceiving him, and he gets sent to the hospital when the police officers mishandle him.
Jimena returns to his father, angry that he did not promise to give her two days to prove the fraud. Regardless, she tells him about what she’s found out. She tells his father that achieving his political ambitions through fraud and corruption is wrong.
He wants to become a politician to make the world better for himself, his grandchildren, and his legacy. Her father agrees with her and makes her the president of the agency. At the end of the episode, Gabriel’s sister tells him that Jimena helped them get the ranch back.
What happens to Jimena and Gabriel?
At the beginning of the chapter, Jimena is cold towards Gabriel. Her responses to his romantic texts are neutral, and she turns him down when he asks to join her in her bedroom. However, after Jimena visits Gabriel’s father, learns about his dreams to change the world, and sneaks into his room, she realises and accepts her feelings for Gabriel.
Hence, on a video call with Gabriel the night she spends at his family ranch, she is not cold but tells him she misses him as much as he does. However, after Gabriel learns that Jimena visited his father and gave him a home but failed to stop the ranch from being seized, he decides to leave. The two talk before Gabriel leaves about Gabriel deceiving Jimena.
Gabriel admits that his intentions when he first came to her house was to look for information and stop the injustice threatening his family, but he later fell in love with her. Regardless, he is angry that she took the last straw of hope from his father and put him in hospital.
How does Season 1 of The Manny end?
Gabriel takes a bus and heads back home to Tepatitlan. While he is sad and feels betrayed, Jimena is devastated and cries uncontrollably after Gabriel leaves. Gabriel arrives home, and his sister tells him they got the ranch back, thanks to Jimena. Gabriel stands staring into space, shocked to hear the news, and the candle that his godmother Romina had just put out at the altar she had made of Gabriel and Jimena sparks back on.
The Episode Review
The episode’s ending suggests the possibility of a season 2 as it leaves an open ending with a symbolic candle reigniting Gabriel and Jimena’s relationship. Gabriel villainises Jimena at the end of the episode, but he soon realises his mistake.
Jimena still let him walk away, thinking she had not done anything to help his family keep the ranch. What happens to Rogelio? He tells Jimena that her father might have known about his dirty deals but decided to look the other way for his political ambition. So, did Jimena’s father know what Rogelio was up to? What happened to the money that the ranchers paid to the shell company? Will Joaquin and Mitch have a lasting relationship?
The kids, especially Sofia, showed tremendous development throughout season 1. She is more mature in her choices and a better sister to Santiago and Leo. She struggles to accept her parent’s divorce, unlike Santiago and Leo, who were more accepting that their parents were better versions of themselves apart. Would the children be accepting of a relationship between Gabriel and Jimena?
