Episode 6 of The Mandalorian Season 2 begins with Moff Gideon continuing his hunt for Mando and Grogu while the latter continues to work on developing his Force powers. Mando promises to find a place for him to be trained by a Jedi and that brings them to a planet called Typhoon.
Touching down, they make it to an ancient site where Mando notices a ship nearby and realizes they need to leave. Only, Grogu falls into a meditative state while sitting atop a rock. This prompts Mando to head off and buy him some time as a robed assassin shows up. He wants his armour back and worse, a sharpshooter (Fennec) has her sights locked on Grogu. As we soon see, this assassin is actually Boba Fett!
Mando refuses to give up his armour though but when another ship touches down, Mando and Grogu’s time really is up. Moff Gideon and his imperial stormtroopers show as an impressive fight breaks out between the three assassins and these troopers.
Despite destroying the first wave, more pour out as Mando and Fennec work back to back to destroy as many as they can. When Boba Fett gets his armour back, he alone turns the tide of battle. He even manages to destroy both imperial ships as they fly off into the atmosphere.
However, Moff Gideon manages to destroy Mando’s ship with a single blast while more troopers (which look like Helghast from Killzone) touch down and swarm Grogu while he’s passed out atop the ancient site. Unfortunately they take off with The Child in-tow, prompting Boba Fett to follow in his iconic ship. It’s no good though and Moff Gideon takes off with his prize.
With Boba Fett now in possession of his armour, the original plan involving keeping The Child safe is obviously a bit of a bust, prompting Boba and Fennec to be in Mando’s service until Grogu is returned. This sees them touch down on Tatooine to use Cara, who in turn locates a prisoner who can help track Grogu and the Imperial cruiser.
On Moff Gideon’s ship, Grogu’s powers continue to grow as he uses force chokes take out two troopers. However, it weakens him considerably and as Gideon places handcuffs on the child, things look bleak for the future prospects of our characters.
The Episode Review
It’s been teased for a while but now Boba Fett is back! The entire episode works really well to balance action with big reveals, including the infamous bounty hunter returning. The action is well-shot too, with lots of wide, sweeping camera movements and long shots used to accentuate the impressive shoot-out and keep things feeling suitably epic.
With Moff Gideon now in possession of Grogu, things certainly don’t look good for Mando. Will he and Boba be able to bring him back before it’s too late? We’ll have to wait and see!
