The Lincoln Lawyer – Season 3 Episode 3 Recap & Review

Strange Bedfellows

Episode 3 of Lincoln Lawyer season 3 jumps forward six months later. Mickey and Andrea are very much an item, although he claims they’re just “good friends”. Anyway, onto the main event.

Mickey’s play here is to try and throw out the original police report so the whole case falls apart like a stack of cards. Lorna is currently off taking her bar exam, so that leaves Izzy to take on the bulk of the work. She visits David and encourages him to come to court. He does just that, and Julian is happy to see him.

Mickey immediately tries to sort his long-shot motion, with an interrogation (disguised as a conversation) involving a hidden camera in the interview room and a specific seat picked out. He wasn’t read his rights and the interview room was also locked, despite not being classed as a witness. The footage doesn’t look good, but unfortunately it doesn’t sway the judge. This one is going to trial.

Forsythe comes up with a deal of 10 years for “good behaviour” knocked down from 16. Mickey is not going for this, obviously, and so everything is set up ready for trial. Outside, Val shows up and gives him an envelope. He’s been served with a subpoena for a case between Hector Moya and Arthur Rollins. He’s filed suit against the prison and that means Mickey needs to show up. Something doesn’t add up here.

Val spills the beans over who served this, and gives a list of names. This includes Kendall Roberts and a DEA agent called James De Marco. As for Mickey, he phones Sylvester Funaro Jr, who seems to know about Glory ratting him out.

Cisco finds the green Honda Civic our mysterious man from the hotel footage was driving. It’s at the scrapyard, after being found abandoned in a parking lot. The car has been completely stripped but he does find the VIN number. On top of that, he also discovers that this Kendall Roberts used to live at the same address as Gloria. They were roommates.

Mickey shows up to see Kendall but she’s rattled when Glory’s name is brought up. Gloria was like a big sister to her, and she told Kendall to stay away from Hector. She’s never had run-ins with the DEA either. When Val shows up, Mickey decides to take her on as a client as a way of protecting her.

Now, Kendall also gives up another name, a fellow escort called Trina. She’s curiously missing from the subpoena list which means she’s probably already working with the prosecution. Cisco manages to find Trina and after paying her off, learns the truth.

De Marco agreed to keep her out of jail in exchange for info about her clients. She never gave info on Hector but De Marco wanted Hector off the streets permanently and through Glory is how he did this. He also gave a gun to plant in Glory’s room, meaning she knew what was happening this whole time.

If that wasn’t enough, it would appear that Trina’s apartment is being watched as Sly Senior, who’s currently behind bars with a phone of his own. He’s either got a tracker on his car or he’s being followed. Cisco believes he should get an Uber home, and with Andrea currently in the bath, it’s the perfect place to go for the night.

Speaking of leads, Lorna does her homework, courtesy of Cisco’s post-it note on the computer. She researches the VIN number and finds out who the man in the hat is from the footage.

The Episode Review

Things are starting to unravel now and it’s clear that this case goes deeper than we initially thought. Whether Hector is actually the one who killed Glory or not remains to be seen, but it’s clear that things are not looking good for our Lincoln Lawyer.

Seeing a case like this stretched out across the whole season works really well, and as we slowly see bits and pieces of the case come together, it adds an extra dimension to this one, which is good to see.

We also have our subplots involving Izzy and Lorna too, and I’d imagine Lorna is going to pass her bar exam, given the emphasis we’re having on this. However, we’ll have to wait and see where this one goes next.
