The Coming Storm
In The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 Episode 6, Scanlan opens a portal to his nightclub for Vox Machina to take shelter in.
There, Vax joins Percy for a soak in a hot spring to talk to him about Vex. He says that if he makes Vex happy, he will put aside his concerns for her safety. When he leaves, Vex pops up, having held her breath underwater to avoid her brother discovering her.
Percy tells Vex about the relief he feels now that revenge isn’t weighing him down. If they survive their mission, he wants to help rebuild Whitestone. He opens the invitation to Vex to settle down with him there.
Later, the party has dinner and talks about going to Emon to fight. Pike worries that she won’t be able to utilize the plate properly, having practiced without much success. They also have the matter of Anna Ripley to concern themselves with. She still has Cabal’s Ruin. But Vax thinks they can’t take more time to chase vestiges; they must act.
Scanlan, however, doesn’t care about any of it. He can’t even talk to his daughter, how is he supposed to save Tal’Dorei?
Pike tells the others about Kaylie, then goes to check on Scanlan and finds him crying. He claims he’s an awful person for abandoning his daughter.
Using a spell, Pike shows him where Kaylie is. They find that she’s performing in Nicodranas. Contrary to Scanlan’s belief, she’s actually missing her dad.
The next day, Allura transports them to Whitestone, but Scanlan stays behind so he can find Kaylie again. The rest of Vox Machina returns to find Whitestone on fire. The dragons have hatched and are currently ravaging the city.
They split up where they’re needed across Whitestone. Vax guards Keyleth and Allura while they put out the fire on the sun tree. The others fight the dragons while Percy goes after Cassandra and helps her during her own battle.
Vox Machina makes it through the fight, but they couldn’t stop the dragons from destroying the city. It angers Vex is that Scanlan wasn’t there when they needed him, but Pike assures her that he had something important to attend to.
The entire city of Whitestone was cloaked. Keyleth believes the dragons were able to find it because Raishan sold them out, and Vax agrees. Raishan then approaches them, and they all surround her. But Percy shoots his gun in the air to stop everyone from attacking. He knows who really betrayed them. It had to have been Anna Ripley.
Percy thinks they need to take care of her before they can get go after Thordak. Raishan disagrees, thinking they need to go to Emon, but Percy cuts off their deal with her.
The dragon then lets them know that they will see each other again–but as enemies rather than allies.
At the end of the episode, Percy laments not being able to protect his people. He asks Vex to help him end Anna. Vex promises to help him, but she both worries revenge will cloud his heart again.
The Episode Review
We have been blessed with not only a Scanlan musical number, but also and incredible battle scene. That shield move from Pike and Kima? I love it.
All in all, this was a great episode that progressed Scanlan’s drama as well as Vex’s and Percy’s relationship seamlessly alongside the main plot.
Vox Machina seems to have enemies on all sides now: Thordak, Anna Ripley… and now Raishan.
