‘The Flash’ Movie Release Date, Trailer & Where To Watch

The Flash

After numerous delays, the next movie in the DCEU, The Flash, will be speeding its way into cinemas very soon. If you have been looking forward to this big-screen outing for the Scarlet Speedster, here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming movie.

What will happen in The Flash?

The Flash will take inspiration from the Flashpoint event in DC Comics, wherein Barry Allen travelled back in time to prevent his mother’s death and in the process, created an alternate timeline.

It makes sense to translate that particular comic book tale to the screen as Multiversal stories are all the rage at the moment, thanks to such successful movies as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Everything Everywhere All At Once.

In the comic book story, The Flash met new incarnations of Batman and Superman but in the upcoming movie, it would appear that Superman has been replaced by Supergirl. As you will know if you have seen the trailer, our hero will be meeting up with Michael Keaton’s Batman, as well as an alternate version of himself. Ben Affleck’s Batman and Michael Shannon’s General Zod will also be a part of this blockbuster movie.

We think this will be one of the best movies within the DCEU but we won’t know for sure until it hits its expected release date.

Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Bros:

“Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”

What is the release date for The Flash?

The Flash will be speeding into cinemas on June 16th 2023.

This isn’t the only movie within the DCEU making a big-screen appearance this year. Following the release of Shazam: Fury Of The Gods earlier in 2023, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom are also coming our way on August 18th and 20th December respectively.

Who is starring in The Flash?

Ezra Miller returns to the role of The Flash following their earlier appearance as the character in Justice League. Michael Keaton reprises the role of Batman, 30 years after wearing the Bat-suit, and Ben Affleck will also make his return as the Caped Crusader.

Making her debut in the DCEU is Sasha Calle as Supergirl. The last time we saw this character on the big screen was 1984’s woeful Supergirl, with Helen Slater in the role of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. This hopefully won’t be the last time we see Calle in the role as James Gunn has announced a standalone Supergirl movie. Calle’s involvement hasn’t been confirmed but if she manages to pull off a great performance in The Flash, it would be a shame if she wasn’t given the opportunity to return.

Who is the director of The Flash?

IT director Andy Muschietti is the director of the new movie. Previous directors attached to the project included the mighty duos of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night).

Following his work on IT and Mama, we think Muschietti is a great choice for director. One of his next projects is Welcome To Derry, a television series that takes place before the events of the first IT movie.
