The Fiery Priest – K-drama Season 2 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Episode 9

Episode 9 of The Fiery Priest Season 2 begins with Hae-il fainting after the thugs retreat. Kyung-sun is tased while Seok-hui is kidnapped. However, the gangsters have no proof of the Sweeper Gang’s identity, it is just Rockfish going with his gut once more. Unsure what to do, Boss Park imprisons them and waits for Hong-sik.

At the hospital, the clerics learn about Hae-il’s illness – multiple sclerosis which affects the nervous system. They are upset and Dean Lee wonders why he keeps fighting if he is ill. Father Han and Sister Kim end up telling him about Hae-il being a bellator.

Meanwhile, Du-heon tries to cosy up to the new Chief Prosecutor, Lee who is assigned to Busan. However, he is annoyed to learn about the seminary attack and scolds Hong-sik. He claims he needs to know any moves Hong-sik makes in advance and Hong-sik finds him egotistical.

Martha rushes to the seminary but Du-heon has already covered up by sending his cops there. They make fun of her and she is further upset as Reporter Ki reports the fight as one between bullies who are attending the seminary.

As for Kyung-sun, she wakes up on the street. Father Han updates her and she rushes to the hospital. Hae-il dreams about Father Lee who advises him to share his burden. He wakes up and their antics resume before he apologises to Father Han and Sister Kim for keeping his illness a secret. He is also worried about Kyung-sun with the tasing incident and decides to stick with her for future missions.

Gozhaev comes across Hae-il’s investigative board about the gas tank and bomb. Wanting to help, he asks his Russian contact, Dimitri to introduce him to Boss Park.

Hong-sik returns to the ship and kills Jellyfish for messing up at the seminary. He is out of patience and also orders the Sweeper Gang’s death regardless of proof. However, Capelin comes to the rescue and claims Mak-san has back scars from an infamous Osaka fight. Gu shows them his back scar from the time Hae-il accidentally stabbed him at the barbeque and the Sweeper Gang is saved.

They recall Capelin seeing Gu’s back when he took off his shirt when he first arrived. But they wonder why he is helping them as there never was any Osaka fight. They are distracted when Kyung-sun updates them about Hae-il. They want to visit him but as they are leaving, they hear Seok-hui being tortured and stay back to rescue her.

Back at the hospital, Martha visits Hae-il and makes a singing confession. She always wanted to take down the Busan drug cartels but Boss Park threatened to kill her and her mother. Since then, she has been a puppet. Hae-il cheers her and promises to keep her mom safe. He also instigates her fighting spirit by telling her about Hong-sik’s nuclear escape plan.

That night, Du-heon drinks with Chief Prosecutor Lee who bullies him. Annoyed, he tells Kyung-sun that it is time to put his contacts to work.

As for Hae-il, he decides to discharge himself. The clerics try to stop him but he runs off. He meets with Chae Do-u and explains that they are going to be on the Citizen Watch Team with Martha. Turns out, she has pulled the Violent Crimes Team from taking on drug cases. Instead, she will be leading the one-man Narcotics team with the Citizen Watch Team’s support.

Kyung-sun calls Hae-il as they head out. Turns out the abandoned gas station is indeed Hong-sik’s gas tank. But they need to defuse the ship bomb and to buy them time, Kyung-sun asks Hong-sik out on a date. He is delighted and instantly races over. She claims she is staying in Uma for good, even if a nuclear bomb drops and he looks uncomfortable.

The Narcotics team’s mission is to take down Jellyfish’ ball boys who are selling drugs on the side. Martha, Hae-il and Chae easily take them all down.

On the ship, the Sweeper Gang finally confronts Capelin only to learn that he is a cop. He has been undercover for 4 years and is stuck. To protect him, there is no record of him in the Drug Investigation Unit. However, the one who could vouch for him is dead. The Sweeper Gang tear up at his sad story and promises to help him get reinstated. As for the woman being tortured, they learn that it is Seok-hui, an NIS agent and alert Hae-il.

Meanwhile, Dimitri introduces Gozhaev to Boss Park who doesn’t recognise him. Gozhaev pretends to invest 400-500 billion won and lets it slip about the bomb ship. Boss Park instantly tells Du-heon who is angry with Hong-sik’s betrayal. He calls Interpol with information about Phukha.

As for the Sweeper Gang, they manipulate the thugs by pretending Fire Eel’s ghost is possessing the ship. To help exorcise him, Ja-yeong needs extra shaman support. At the end of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 9, the shaman support shows up in the form of Kyung-sun and Hae-il in over-the-top disguises.

The Episode Review

The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 9 wraps up the major mystery by finally revealing everything – Martha’s initial fear, Capelin’s constant vouching of the Sweeper Gang and Hae-il’s illness. We also know where the gas tank is and Du-heon’s reaction to the betrayal. This will probably serve as the final conflict as Hong-sik will have to fight the prosecutor and Hae-il’s squad.

But we will be sad to see him and Kyung-sun at odds since their “fake” dates are absolutely hilarious and show a totally different side to him.

The Sweeper Gang is finally pulling their weight apart from creating chaos and it will be fun to see how they team up with the shaman support to take down Hong-sik. We still have 3 episodes left but looks like we are in for a whole lot of action, comedy and melodrama from what we can gauge from the teasers.
