Episode 8

Episode 8 of The Fiery Priest Season 2 begins with Hae-il and Hong-sik’s fight. The Sweeper Gang tries to join the thugs on the ship rushing to the church in hopes of protecting Hae-il. Father Han calls Kyung-sun who worries for Hae-il since he is sick. Hae-il, indeed, gets dizzy and Hong-sik kicks him down. Before he can kick his head, Kyung-sun calls and agrees to the date.

The interruption is enough for the masked woman to call the SWAT team and have Hong-sik arrested for assault. Turns out, she is Chief Go Martha who has been secretly investigating him. However, she only got him arrested to save Hae-il. She knows he will be released and she will be killed for targeting him. Hae-il tries to convince her to join him but she runs off.

She is right as Hong-sik is released and he tells Hae-il he won’t cause him trouble as long as the priest backs off. The news reaches the ship and the Sweeper Gang pauses their antics. However, they are worried and head to town with the excuse that Mak-san misses his mom. Rockfish still doesn’t trust them and sends Capelin after them. Of course, he doesn’t see anything amiss as Sister Kim and Gozhaev pretend to be Mak-san’s mother and grandmother. 

Meanwhile, the bookstore friend, Seok-hui gives some alarming news to Hae-il which he relays to Kyung-sun. Hong-sik bombs his ships and kills his workers with a gas tank whenever a territory becomes useless or if his identity is revealed. They believe he didn’t kill at the benefit since he still has something to do. Hae-il has been feeling tired recently and Kyung-sun insists that it is the ghost.

At the church, Sister Kim and Father Han try to tell the Uma clerics about Hong-sik but he arrives and claims rumours have been spread by his rivals. Chae knows the truth and puts up an anti-drug watch squad with some of the apostles. 

Back to the “family reunion,” the Sweeper Gang is filled in about Hong-sik’s methods and Yo-han is given the task of finding the bomb since he can hear high-pitched frequencies. Elsewhere, Jellyfish tries to kidnap Martha and Hae-il saves her. But she begs him not to get involved and goes into hiding.

It cuts to Kyung-sun and Hong-sik’s date. He is into her and she tries to flirt back but she is bad at it. She is shocked that he is shy as he gives her a gift. At work, she opens it and sees that it is a huge diamond necklace. She gets it appraised and the jeweler considers buying it for 5 million won. However, it gives Kyung-sun the perfect excuse to give back the gift and break up with Hong-sik by pretending that she is offended.

As for Hae-il, while he wonders about Father Lee and heaven, the ghost twirls coins in the shape of a cross and he faints in shock. The next morning, Chae tells him about his watch squad and later creates a scene much to Du-heon’s annoyance. He complains to Hong-sik who is simply amused. The prosecutor is further irked that his scapegoat, Oh Jin-yeong refuses to cooperate and he tells Kyung-sun to convince the idol’s agency.

While the Sweeper Gang wonders how to find the bomb, they finally meet Hong-sik. He gives them jobs and Boss Park is surprised as he never instantly trusts anyone. Hong-sik also asks Ja-yeong about his fate and she claims his benefactor is from the South.

He sends several of the thugs to beat up Chae’s watch squad and this leaves the ship empty. Yo-han leads the Sweeper Gang to a restricted access door but they are stopped. Boss Park knows of their identity and smirks at them.

Meanwhile, Kyung-sun decides to sneak into the Go House since Du-heon is at the HQ. But before she can break the lock, Ma-ri tases her. At the same time, Hong-sik learns of Seok-hui looking into him and he knocks her out. Hae-il stalks a gecko who leads him to an empty gas station. Before he can check it out, Chae calls him as the thugs are attacking the seminary. 

At the end of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 8, Hae-il races back to the church and beats up the thugs who have hurt the students. Jellyfish hits him on the head but he continues to attack. Scared by his ferocity, the thugs retreat. However, his head bleeds and he falls while Dean Lee, Father Han and Chae look in shock.

The Episode Review

Well, that wasn’t very smart of Hae-il to go alone to the church. But to be fair, he didn’t have a lot of options. The Sweeper Gang would have never been able to make it to the church in time and the cops are with the thugs. Kyung-sun wouldn’t have been much help and she has been tased so there’s that. Looks like we will have to now wait for a week and see if the fight worsens Hae-il’s situation and if there is a miraculous cure for his illness.

Ma-ri is a strange figure who we’d written off but this week, she has been catching our attention. She was clearly upset when Park was killed. But if she was on his team, why did she follow Kyung-sun and stop her from breaking into Du-heon’s chamber at the end of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 8? We also wonder how Boss Park saw through the Sweeper Gang’s disguise…
