Episode 7
Episode 7 of The Fiery Priest Season 2 begins with Chief Prosecutor Park being killed and frozen. Captain Lee and the dirty cops resume collecting tribute. Meanwhile, Du-heon assigns a shaken Kyung-sun to the druggie, Park Jun-hyeok so they can control his father, Vice Minister Park.
At the church, Hong-sik watches the burning statue via a drone. He lets himself get spotted and Hae-il runs after it before the operator mocks him before speeding away.
In jail, Jun-hyeok tries to play cocky but Kyung-sun scares him and makes him call his father. His idol friend, Oh Jin-yeong is clean but Du-heon wants to use him as a scapegoat to win VM Park’s favour.
As for Operation Doppelganger, Gu’s look-alike criminal’s name is Mak-san. His girlfriend, Yuk Du-ja is a shaman and looks exactly like Ja-yeong. They name themselves the Sweeper Gang and spread the rumour that they want to kill Hae-il.
Meanwhile, the Uma cops pretend to investigate the burning Virgin Mary statue and blame Hae-il for it. Frustrated, Hae-il and Chae Do-u tell Dean Lee about the drug cartel. However, Dean Lee tells them to leave the seminary since it is not their duty to enact vengeance.
Hae-il simply reminds him of their deal – Dean Lee has to turn a blind eye to his antics and not suspend Chae. In return, Hae-il will fill all seats at mass and bring in 3x more participants for the seminary next year. Chae thinks it is a hopeless cause and Dean Lee wants to go back on the deal but Hae-il refuses.
He also gives Kyung-sun a tracker which she plants on Du-heon and trails him to the Go House. But someone watches her. Inside, Du-heon records all the evidence he racks up to control politicians. He also learns of Hae-il’s military past. He sends a Reporter Ki to cover the burning statue as spontaneous combustion but Dean Lee kicks him out.
The Sweeper Gang’s reputation reaches the ship and they set up a meeting. Hong-sik is wary but Boss Park takes it upon himself to verify their credibility. The thugs almost don’t believe the Sweeper Gang but Capelin knows Mak-san and vouches for them.
At Sunday Mass, Hong-sik gets on Hae-il’s nerves by laughing and scoffing but the priest keeps his cool. He has other problems as he notices Kyung-sun in a nun’s get-up. She claims it is to meet Sister Kim and Father Han but in actuality, she wants an exorcism. Hae-il indulges her but he cannot see the ghost in her flat. However, Kyung-sun panics as the ghost climbs Hae-il and leaves with him.
Hong-sik tries to ask Kyung-sun to the meteor shower again but she refuses saying it is bad luck. Meanwhile, the Sweeper Gang is taken to the ship and given a place to stay. However, they cannot kill Hae-il due to Hong-sik’s orders. Rockfish almost recognises Gu since his “birthmark” is fading but Hae-il has a contingency plan. He lets the Laotian thugs find him having lunch with Gu’s uncle who looks exactly like him and they believe “Mak-san”.
The Sweeper Gang is exhausted with their thuggish disguises and stays in contact with Hae-il via a microphone that Gu has hidden in his underwear. His bruised birthmark is fading as well and Songsak punches him to darken it once more.
The Sweeper Gang is still not in the clear as Capelin finds it fishy that Mak-san keeps forgetting things and they make up a story that he headbutted a statue.
Du-heon finally calls Hae-il and tries to be friendly by advising him to back off. Hae-il refuses and Du-heon threatens to kill everyone at the church which doesn’t scare the priest. Instead, Hae-il tries to find more info on the lizard tattoo but fails. That night, he struggles to sleep and we see the ghost sitting on his stomach.
Meanwhile, Du-heon warns Kyung-sun that there will be a war and in such a case, they should watch from the sidelines. News of Chief Prosecutor Park’s death goes public and Ma-ri is shocked. As for Hae-il, he asks a friend about the tattoo and learns of Saban, the infamous Laos drug cartel. After General Bak Lak died, his right-hand man, Phukha and their trained killers, the geckos disappeared.
He and Kyung-sun share their information and come to the conclusion that Du-heon is working with Phukha and had Chief Prosecutor Park killed as he was getting close to the truth.
At the ship, Jellyfish wants a prophecy from Ja-yeong and she claims that she needs to see his boss to get an accurate read. He shows the gang a photo of Hong-sik and they are all shocked.
At the church, extravagant preparations for Hong-sik’s benefit begin. The masked lady is present as well and she keeps staring at Hae-il and Hong-sik. Before the event begins, the Sweeper Gang tells Hae-il that Hong-sik is the drug lord they have been searching for. Furious, Hae-il tells Father Han and Sister Kim to hide everyone in the church on the pretext of rain.
At the end of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 7, Hae-il smiles and Hong-sik realises his identity is revealed. They run towards each other, ready to punch the other.
The Episode Review
And with The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 7, Hong-sik’s identity is finally revealed to all the parties. We were waiting for all the characters running around with bits of information about Hong-sik to finally figuring out. Well, it makes sense that the second half of the K-drama would begin with the showdown. It is also quite hilarious how Hae-il and Hong-sik’s rivalry is literally Island’s plot but with comic undertones.
We also need more of the Sweeper Gang and their antics on the ship. BIBI is a delight every time she gives into the physical comedy and she needs to take on more comedies rather than serious thrillers. Kyung-sun’s ghost arc though had us surprised. Are they seriously going with a supernatural element? Or is it some kind of metaphor? Guess only time will tell.
