Episode 5
Episode 5 of The Fiery Priest Season 2 begins with Detective Gu, Ja-yeong and Gozhaev running to Hae-il’s aid. When he warns them that it is dangerous, they run away. But Hae-il keeps up with the Laotian thugs easily. Hong-sik is impressed but pulls back his men when reinforcements show up.
The fight is all over the news and Du-heon is annoyed that he has to cover it up. But it has been worth it as they finally know who the “fake” priest is. Du-heon wants to get rid of Hae-il but Hong-sik refuses as he is excited about having a worthy opponent.
Du-heon is playing Go with the elderly gentleman who uses a diversion tactic. This gives the prosecutor an idea and he tells Chairman Kim that the fight was a distraction to bury his son’s drug case. Grateful, Chairman Kim uses his influence to close the Laotians’ case.
As the Gudam vigilantes head to Gozhaev’s, Hae-il gives them grief for running away. He also updates Kyung-sun about the Laotian cartel’s involvement and lends her an expensive car to get close to Du-heon. Back at Gozhaev’s, they aren’t having any luck in tracing the culprits. But Hae-il has an ace up his sleeve.
His NIS contact grants Ja-yeong access to their facial recognition system. But it takes forever, with everyone splitting up. Hae-il has his own secret mission as he recalls a lizard tattoo on the Laotian thugs but he doesn’t recognise it. He calls Songsak who is half Laotian and Yo-han who want to give him the silent treatment but are over the moon when he calls them to Busan for help.
At the ship factory, Mrs. Song’s health has gotten worse. But the thugs are passing around drugs to the elderly, claiming that it is an all-cure pill. Song takes it that night and gets high. The night is eventful for Kyung-sun too as her room seems haunted with a fallen painting and a strange reflection. As for Hae-il, he is caught sneaking in by Dean Lee but he distracts him and runs off.
At breakfast, Chae Do-u informs Hae-il about Mrs. Song’s health and how she smells of chemicals. Hae-il cautions him as he investigates the “food” factory. Chae heads to Song’s and sees her dazed as she makes her way to the thugs’ van. As for Sister Kim and Father Han, they have befriended the Uma clerics who are recruiting talents for the theatre group. A waitress shows interest and they welcome her.
Meanwhile, Du-heon and Ma-ri look into Hae-il and also identify Detective Gu. They figure the two are looking into Sang-yeon’s case but wonder how they know Ja-yeong. Kyung-sun interrupts to pay her respects to Du-heon as routine and while he scoffs, internally he is impressed.
She claims to be self-obsessed and ambitious and he puts her on a small fry’s case. She is wild and chaotic and he is terrified of her tactics. His senior calls and on hearing that Kyung-sun is in Busan, he tells Du-heon to be good to her as she is one of their best.
While waiting for the facial recognition, Gu, Ja-yeong and Hae-il spy on Captain Lee and the corrupt cops. Like clockwork, the Uma cops collect protection fees, bribes and cuts from drug dealers. Our vigilantes confront them during the sale of defective creams and easily take them down.
Right then, Gozhaev alerts them of the facial matches – Capelin, Jellyfish and Boss Park. As they make their way, Gu tries to get out of speaking formally to Ja-yeong. She gives in but he continues to call her ‘aunt’. Their hunt of the three thugs is futile but Gozhaev suddenly remembers Capelin from his cooking class. Turns out, he is in love with their teacher and has been visiting her every night.
As for Chae, the city hall and the cops insist the food factory is legal. He takes matters into his own hands as he sneaks in. He only spots Hong-sik before he is caught and kicked out.
The first drug shipment is ready albeit with antics courtesy of Boss Park who accidentally cuts off the legs of their customs contact and enlists college bullies aka the ball boys as packers. Back at the factory, the drugs are too much for Mrs. Song and she dies. Scared of her family investigating, the thugs take her home and frame it so that it looks like she died in her sleep.
Meanwhile, the righteous Chief Prosecutor Park wants to take down Du-heon who learns of it. Du-heon is also impressed by Kyung-sun taking on all the measly cases and doing her best to serve her superiors. He meets with Hong-sik for help with Chief Prosecutor Park and decides to invite Kyung-sun. As she arrives, she worries that her hair is too greasy but Hong-sik instantly falls in love with her.
Songsak and Yo-han’s trip to Busan is pretty bumpy but they finally make it. Gozhaev welcomes them and there is some bantering as they think he is still the bad guy. As for Gu, Ja-yeong and Hae-il, they stake out the teacher’s place. They bet on her reaction when Capelin shows up with flowers and gifts.
Ja-yeong wins as the teacher not only rejects Capelin but also slaps him. They follow him as he teary-eyed makes his way back to the ball boys’ hideout. At the end of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 5, Hae-il enters the hideout and smiles wickedly while Capelin hides.
The Episode Review
The first half of the K-drama is about to end and The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 5 amps up the action. All the different threads of the subplots are finally getting closer as Kyung-sun meets Hong-sik, Chae spots Hong-sik too and investigates the drugs factory, and Hae-il arrives at their packing hideout. As for the emotional quotient, poor Mrs. Song’s death is definitely going to cause an uproar and spur our vigilantes into action.
The comedy as usual is brilliant but what makes it funnier is that Hong-sik is finally the victim of it. Since his introduction, he seems to be the “normal” one who finds it odd with the way all the characters of this K-drama are acting chaotic and childish. But with that fun little CGI of Kyung-sun literally walking into his heart, looks like even he is not immune to the antics of The Fiery Priest. It would be fun to see his cool composure crack which we hope to see soon.
