The Fiery Priest – K-drama Season 2 Episode 2 Recap & Review

Episode 2

Episode 2 of The Fiery Priest Season 2 begins with Father Michael aka Kim Hae-il leaving a note behind for the Gudam crew. He doesn’t want the crew to follow him as Busan is dangerous. Detective Gu Dae-young refuses to give up and promises to find Hae-il.

In Busan, Hae-il meets Vladimir Gozhaev who is going by Ko Dok-seong. He has become a loanshark and Hae-il enlists him to find Fire Eel. Gu calls to ask him about Hae-il and Gozhaev lies. But his acting is so bad that Gu figures him out

Meanwhile, Prosecutor Du-heon meets the Busan dealers and one of them is Fire Eel. We also learn that Du-heon never takes any bribes and in return demands complete obedience from the gang. He also tells the gang leader, Boss Park to make a list of the Busan celebrities who do drugs so he can use them as scapegoats.

As for Hae-il, he shows up at the Busan School of Theology for the seminar. The dean, Dominic Lee Ung-seok is super strict and believes the church should be separate from the secular world. Of course, Hae-il’s first seminar has him advising the students to use their anger to fix the world. One of the pre-ordained students, Chae Do-u finds him ridiculous.

In LA, Prosecutor Park Kyung-sun is freed as the local bellator vouches for her. He shares that Hae-il became a bellator 4 years ago, and people like her are ‘comes’, those who protect bellators. Hae-il checks in with her and we learn that they set up a trap to catch the drug dealer.

As for the infamous SEA supplier, he goes by Kim Hong-sik and is on a plane back to South Korea. He makes a fuss for some Korean paste and pays a passenger handsomely when she offers him some.

As for Hae-il, we learn that he has a brain disease. It is not terminal but painful and his doctor insists that he cannot have any more head injuries. Before he can do anything about the drug case, Dean Lee makes him the short-tempered Chae Do-u’s babysitter.

Hae-il finds him at a police station where he has beaten up some bullies while pretending to be a priest. Hae-il creates a scene while profusely apologising to everyone. And with a call from the Cardinal’s office, Chae is set free. Ironically, Hae-il reprimands Chae for losing his cool and beating up the bullies.

Elsewhere, the informant dealer’s girlfriend, Heidi wants to meet Fire Eel. The meeting is postponed and she is annoyed. At the same time, Hong-sik is having dinner at a Busan street stall when Boss Park and his men show up to welcome him egregiously. Next, he meets the dirty cops who try to scare him and increase their cut from 8% to 20%. In return, Hong-sik kills one of them and tells them that he is calling the shots from now on.

The next morning, Dean Lee is scandalised when Hae-il’s next seminar involves music as he teaches the students Taekwondo. Back in Gudam, Detective Gu pretends to be possessed to get a month’s leave. He then runs off to Busan, annoying the rest of the Gudam crew.

Onto the Fire Eel mystery, Gozhaev finds the dealer’s friend, Ko Dong-geun, a pimp. And as usual, Hae-il beats him up and tortures him with ice till Dong-geun sets up a meeting with Fire Eel. Having hacked Gozhaev’s phone, Gu shows up and Hae-il accidentally knocks him out with an ice pack. They end up bickering as Gu refuses to go back home. Giving up, Hae-il, Gu and Gozhaev head to Fire Eel’s hideout.

Right when Heidi’s boyfriend tries to convince Fire Eel to meet her, Hae-il and Gu show up. They beat up the gang but get tired by the end and listlessly keep slapping Fire Eel. But before he can share anything, Heidi shows up. Turns out, she is an undercover cop and she arrests everyone including Hae-il and Detective Gu.

The first epilogue of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 2 shows Hong-sik ordering Boss Park to stop distributing hepanyl. Instead, they will focus on luxury items. A second epilogue shows Chae helping a deaf family and then eating dinner with them. The thugs make fun of them and it is why Chae beats them up.

The Episode Review

The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 2 is even more hilarious than the previous episode. And it is all courtesy of Hae-il who somehow keeps getting even more unhinged with every passing episode. From hamming it up at the police station to bickering with Gu and slapping Fire Eel, he is definitely one strange priest that knows how to make us laugh.

It also makes sense that he is the one behind Kyung-sun’s date with the mob boss and then helps bail her out. But we are unsure how her little escapade helps the plot. Unless the bit about bellators and ‘comes’ will play a bigger role in the coming weeks.

By the way, how about that wild introduction to Sung Joon as the big bad baddie – Kim Hong-sik. Bring Eunwoo and Lee Da-hee as well in some capacity and we just might get a complete Island reunion.
