The Fiery Priest – K-drama Season 2 Episode 10 Recap & Review

Episode 10

Episode 10 of The Fiery Priest Season 2 begins with the arrival of Kyung-sun as a male shaman and Hae-il as a female shaman. At the same time, Du-heon finds hospital CCTV footage of Kyung-sun visiting Hae-il and realises she is a spy. He decides not to tell Hong-sik who is busy terrorizing the customs team.

Elsewhere, Dean Lee meets with Busan’s bishop who scolds him for the seminary fight. However, Dean Lee stands up for Hae-il and Chae and claims they were fighting for justice.

Back at the ship, Hae-il and Capelin rescue Seok-hui. The rest of the crew distracts Boss Park’s gang by pretending to exorcise Fire Eel’s “spirit.” Turns out he is alive and trying to atone after the cold morgue shocked him back to life.

Once Capelin escapes with Seok-hui and the elderly, the gang tries to run out. They get lost and fight Boss Park’s thugs. Hong-sik catches Hae-il who reveals he was NIS and Seok-hui’s former colleague. They fight but Hae-il is able to get away. The gang finally remembers the exit and they are met outside by Sister Kim who drives recklessly and loses the thugs and the Geckos.

Capelin brings the elderly to Martha who is lenient on them as her goal is stopping drugs. Next, Capelin and the rest of the Gudam crew regroup at Gozhaev’s. Their exhilaration turns to worry as they lament about Hae-il’s illness. He apologises for keeping it a secret but they are soon distracted by food.

Meanwhile, Hong-sik brutally punishes Boss Park and promises to kill him the next day. Hong-sik and the Laotians then start packing up while Boss Park’s men spy on them. Right on time, Gozhaev meets with a wounded Boss Park to defuse the ship bomb and steal Hong-sik’s money.

They are interrupted by Du-heon who learns of the developments and has a clean-up job for Boss Park. His thugs try to kill Martha but she scares them away with her guns. Two more thugs attack Kyung-sun but Ma-ri saves her.

Turns out, she is an internal investigator appointed by Chief Prosecutor Park and was working undercover to take down Du-heon. She stopped Kyung-sun from entering the Go House since Du-heon has a CCTV inside. She also tells Kyung-sun about the hospital CCTV footage.

That night, Hae-il meets Dean Lee and apologises for causing trouble. He finds that Dean Lee used to protest when he was young. However, Dean Lee claims he has changed since his friend died while they were fighting for justice. Hae-il hopes someone else will carry on his duty once he dies and believes Dean Lee’s friend would feel the same.

At the same time, Hong-sik calls Kyung-sun to the church and reveals that he is leaving and wants her to join him. With her usual antics, she rejects him and he sadly accepts it. After he leaves, she and Hae-il realise that Du-heon hasn’t told Hong-sik about her secret.

They also learn about the ghost via Ma-ri. Kyung-sun’s lodging was previously a murderer’s and the 3rd victim’s body was never found. And yes, the 3rd victim is the Polka Dot ghost that Kyung-sun and Hae-il see. The duo faints at this news.

Meanwhile, Du-heon is annoyed that both Martha and Kyung-sun are alive. Unfortunately, Hong-sik confronts him right then about keeping Hae-il’s NIS past a secret. He believes Du-heon is a traitor and tries to threaten him. Further annoyed, Du-heon tells him about Kyung-sun.

Things seem to be looking up for the Gudam crew the next morning. Dean Lee gives Chae permission to teach Taekwondo at the seminary. Gu, Songsak and Yo-han convince the customs contact to testify against Hong-sik. Capelin and Ja-yeong take down a dirty cop who knows his identity.

However, Hong-sik kidnaps Kyung-sun and gets ready to leave. He activates the ship bomb and the gas tank but nothing happens. Turns out, Boss Park defused the ship bomb while Hae-il defused the gas tank.

A furious Hong-sik calls Hae-il and tells him that Kyung-sun is his backup. Hae-il rushes to the church and finds the clerics tied up. As Gu unties them, Hae-il finds Kyung-sun bound to a chair at the altar. Syringes of the drug are near her neck.

In 3 minutes, she will be injected and she will die of an overdose. But Hong-sik will let her go if Hae-il commits suicide, an act that will condemn him to hell. The clerics, Gu and Kyung-sun try to stop Hae-il as he points the gun to his head. At the end of The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 10, a gunshot is heard.

The Episode Review

Well, with The Fiery Priest Season 2 Episode 10 originally being part of the penultimate week, it has all the right tropes for it. The first half is filled with hilarious but clever action segments as the Gudam crew finally wraps up the ship mystery and makes their escape for good. Hong-sik and Du-heon learn all the little insider info about Hae-il’s crew that riles them up. And more players join the Gudam crew including Dean Lee and Ma-ri.

Along with the comedy and the action, this episode also brings in the emotional beat that we last see with Sang-yeon’s tragic downfall. Hae-il has a tender moment with his crew as he shows a vulnerable side that he usually keeps hidden with his angry and snarky temperament.

Similarly, the ending may be fast-paced but it hits all the right notes as Hae-il faces one of the most shocking dilemmas that a priest can encounter. Though, we still wonder, what is up with the Polka Dot ghost!?
