You Mean a Hitman…?
Episode 9 of The Fable begins with Misaki arriving home. Kojima’s there and informs Misaki about his future call-girl service. Misaki refuses Kojima’s call-girl offer. Kojima uses Misaki’s involvement with Kuro and a swift cover-up story to entice Misaki to comply. Misaki’s on to Kojima’s game and plans to call the police if Kojima doesn’t leave. Kojima says he’s not afraid of the cops and will take Misaki there himself.
Next, Kojima reminds Misaki he’s a yakuza and threatens her to comply. Kojima gives Misaki his phone number so Misaki can call him. If Misaki doesn’t call Kojima at a certain interval, Kojima will arrive at one of her workplaces. Next, Sunagawa visits Hiroshi and tells him Kojima’s senior perished recently and suspects Kojima killed him.
Sunagawa asks Hiroshi to let him interrogate Kojima. If Kojima killed Sungawa’s ally, Sunagawa plans to eliminate Kojima. Hiroshi denies Sunagawa permission because he doesn’t want anyone killing folks in Taihei. Sunagawa questions Hiroshi further about the matter. Hiroshi folds and tells Sunagawa that if Sunagawa can produce “solid proof” against Kojima, he’ll ponder matters further.
Next, Misaki ponders Kojima’s threat at home and discusses Fable’s drawings with her boss at work the next day. Misaki tells Fable the clients approved his illustrations and asks him to accompany her to a restaurant later to celebrate. Misaki’s boss insists Fable accept Misaki’s offer. This makes Misaki’s pervy coworker jealous. Elsewhere, Takeshi lies in his hospital bed, pondering Kojima’s prior remarks regarding call-girl services, guns, and more.
Meanwhile, Misaki and Fable arrive at the restaurant. Fable shares details about his tough forest life experiences. Their brief discussion about Fable’s upbringing during a prior episode’s events piqued Misaki’s curiosity about Fable’s tragic upbringing. Fable tells Misaki that he loved being surrounded by nature as it made his circumstances feel less lonely.
While ordering, Fable receives a text from Takeshi. Takeshi tells Fable he wants to discuss things with him. Misaki asks Fable more questions about his life and finds him and Yoko somewhat strange. Fable retaliates and says Misaki’s been acting weird lately. He tells Misaki he’s willing to help her with anything. Misaki tells Fable not to worry about it and the two continue their discussion.
Next, Sunagawa and one of his subordinates greet Takahashi somewhere. Sunagawa tells Takahashi he wants to speak with Kojima. He insists Takahashi tell Kojima to call him later. Takahashi complies and Sunagawa and his ally leave. In a car, Sunagawa tells his ally that they should kill Kojima. Sunagawa’s ally says he’s willing to kill Kojima, but Sunagawa says he knows a pro-hitman who can complete the task.
Later, Fable meets with Takeshi at the hospital. Takeshi tells Fable to monitor Kojima because Takeshi has a hunch he’s up to something nefarious. Fable says he’s not interested but Takeshi persuades him to accept this mission and explore their group’s warehouse for clues. Then, Misaki receives a phone call from her co-worker about one of the managers getting assaulted.
Next, Fable arrives at the warehouse and investigates. He discovers a clue, flees the warehouse, and calls Takeshi. Fable tells Takeshi Kojima’s kickstarting a call-girl service and informs him that he may have acquired a firearm. Takeshi’s suspicious and wants more from Fable. However, Fable tells Takeshi he wants to live in peace and ends the call.
Later, Misaki calls Kojima about one of her workplace managers’ injuries. Misaki knows Kojima’s responsible for that, but Kojima ensures her it was probably a random gang member. Kojima insists Misaki worry about herself as he hints that a similar fate could happen to her. Kojima says he’s looking forward to Misaki’s future phone call to him and hangs up.
Then, Kojima orders Takahashi to hand two gangsters cash. We learn Kojima did orchestrate Misaki’s manager’s assault. Later, Takeshi arrives at Fable’s home. He tells Fable he secretly left the hospital and wants Fable to accompany him on more missions. Takeshi fears Sunagawa and Kojima will try to murder each other.
Takeshi says he’d tell Hiroshi but he knows Hiroshi will execute Kojima. Fable says he’s not interested so Takeshi offers to give Fable his car if Fable helps him stop Kojima. The episode closes with Sunagawa meeting the pro-hitman and his middleman.
The Episode Review
Circumstances are starting to grow less peaceful for Fable and his friends in Taihei. With Kojima and Sunagawa making their moves, it makes sense for Takeshi to get involved. Although his hospital escape was rather convenient, it’s great to see him and Fable tackling another undercover investigation again. These two have established a decent connection since Fable and Yoko arrived in Taihei and we’re certain fans are interested to see what happens with them.
On the flip side, things continue looking grim for Misaki. Again, it’s a bummer no one has dealt with Misaki’s pervy coworker yet. However, fans are certain the naughty fellow will get his comeuppance once Kojima and Sunagawa’s situations are resolved. Speaking of Kojima, this episode shows why Kojima’s a man of business and not one to toy around with.
From his manipulative tactics to his sharp leadership Kojima’s not one for games. Hopefully, Takeshi and Fable can reason with Kojima before Sunagawa’s pro-hitman beats them to the punch. All in all, this was another great chapter of The Fable. It’s suspenseful, heartfelt at points, and contains subtle intrigue that’ll leave fans clamoring for the next chapter immediately.
While its art quality, animation, and plot convenience may deter folks from enjoying it, it contains alluring aspects to keep fans invested.
