The Day of the Jackal – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Croatia

Episode 9 of The Day of the Jackal starts with us over in Croatia. All boats in and out of the island are monitored closely, and the Jackal is watching. Leonore shows up and immediately breaks his train of thought. She brings up that with River launching in 48 hours, they have a very slim window of time to get this done. But the Jackal is not done yet and is adamant about finishing the job.

Over in Split, Jackal works to try and figure out a way to get to UDC. With the pressure mounting, he needs to try and find the right outfit and disguise to go in. For now, it’s time to head back home but Nuria is outside, watching his every move on the baby monitor.

Nuria eventually confronts her husband and questions what’s real between them. Given everything going on with the Jackal, she calls him a liar and demands the absolute truth. He admits to being a professional killer and with this out in the open, she believes they can have a proper conversation.

As they sit together, the Jackal brings up that he has one more job to do – that being UDC – and then it’s over. For good. The wildcard here though comes from Nuria’s brother, Alvero. He’s been talking to a guy called Jimmy TeJero, a shady Cuban gangster whom he’s convinced Charles will be his business partner.

When Nuria feeds this back to the Jackal, he remains calm, composed and promises to make things right. He speaks to Alvero and agrees to go to this business meeting with him. Well, the Jackal manages to resolve this little issue, shooting Jimmy dead from a drone, while out on a boat.

Bianca decides to go and find Captain Mike Baldwin, the man who led his team into death. He’s suffering from lung cancer, thanks to his time in Afghanistan. She doesn’t waste any time, getting right down to brass tacks. Bianca wants details on Douggan – and she wants them now. He doesn’t give much but does reveal his associate, Gary Cobb, who could be a crucial clue here.

Bianca brings this to Isabel, but the latter has decided to close the case. The bigger picture here is that they’re wasting their time and need to reallocate their resources. Bianca though is a woman possessed and remains dead-set on finding him. Even if that means going outside the perimeters of her work to do so.

Bianca speaks to OC, who’s clearly rattled and wants nothing to do with this case. It’s definitely a changed tune from what we’ve seen him singing over the past few episodes. Could Carver have got to him?

With nowhere else to turn to, Bianca shows up to see Paul. She admits to missing him, allowing herself to be vulnerable, and trying to fix their marriage. Paul though believes she’s only here because of a problem with her work. Even so, she does stay the night and notices news coming in for the kill shot against Tejero. She immediately perks up with the links to being a sniper and making a deadly shot from range.

However, Jackal is already on the move and he heads back to Split, out at sea, where he sets up a snipered drone. It’s very tense, as UDC’s life hangs in the balance. They have a Code Red alerted, as UDC’s security intel is killed. We know he’s a proficient swimmer, and UDC stays underwater as he makes it back. Unfortunately, he’s killed in the process, prompting the Jackal to get away – but he’s not alone as there are others after him.

The Episode Review

So the Jackal finally gets his kill, and it comes with a shocking degree of tension as UDC’s life is hanging in the balance. This drone sniper is a nasty bit of kit and we see first-hand how deadly this is as the Jackal makes his kill.

Meanwhile, Bianca is closing in on the Jackal and that news story about the sniper in Spain is almost certainly going to see her heading off to investigate and get to the bottom of how this ties in with his family and, subsequently, Nuria.

With the Jackal’s final kill confirmed, it seems like he’s hanging up the sniper rifle once and for all. But will be really? Is this the end? Or is there another twist in the tale to come?

Everything is hanging in the balance, and it’s anyone’s guess who will come out of this in one piece.

  1. I noticed that speed boat as well! It’s surprising that the editing department omitted to reshoot the scene; it’s been so meticulous so far! Lots of challenges for the Jackal all at once, while standing on a boat. How will he drop off the boat and get rid of the body?? Secondary questions, right?

  2. Boat scene was a bit off with the random boat going past!
Yes, agree, how on earth did he travel with the gear?😁

  3. I think UDC paid the Jackal to appear to shoot him to preempt other assasins from being hired by the bad billionaires. That wld be a great twist as he collects from both sides…..

  4. Why do I not have access to Episode 9?! Some sites say it was released on the 4th, some the 5th, some say the 12th? I am in the US and have a Peacock subscription and it is only on episode 8?!

  5. Absurd episode. Jackal does not know how to shoot from a shakey boat, googles the problem and later on he´s got a rifle in a gimbal and shoots as always perfect without any practice except for one shot.

Next big plothole is how did he get so fast from Cadiz to Croatia and how did he get the rifle etc. with him this time ?

  6. Did anyone notice the speedboat go past the Jackals boat when he was lining up his shots with the Drone Sniper? Really confused me as seemed out of place and was not seen again. Wondered if it was an editing error.

  7. There was no drone sniper. The last 15 mins of the episode were intense and exciting. Can’t believe I was relieved when he took the shot

  8. Tim, that’s your issue. The title “clearly” says “The Day of the Jackal – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review.” For you to “skim it” is nonsense if you haven’t seen the episode. Then have the neerce to say not happy..what exactly did you expect…lol!

  9. People who google the episode, scroll down and select an article called “The Day of the Jackal – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review”, and then read the article only to complain about spoilers….. YOU ONLY HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME

  10. Hey Tim, really sorry to hear that! Generally with our recaps we tend to go over the entirety of the episode’s plot, with a little review about the episode at the end with our thoughts on what’s happened. Almost all of our recaps do follow the same format and we try to be as informative as possible with our subject title too so those who don’t want to click through from google, aren’t spoiled by any of the events.

With that said, it’s a great episode and well worth checking out. Hopefully you can still go in and enjoy the episode because it’s well worth checking out!
