Karte 19: We’re Overflowing
Episode 7 of The Dangers In My Heart Season 2 starts with Kyotaro wandering his home’s hallway. During his stroll, he recognizes his voice in another room and investigates. He spots Kana and his parents watching footage of him giving his speech. Kyotaro confronts Kana about the footage and Kana wonders what Kyotaro will do if this footage helps him attain a massive following.
Then she says something similar to what Yamada said at the end of episode 6. This makes Kyotaro question if Kana knows what happened between her, him, and Haruya. At school, Kyotaro questions if Yamada likes him. Before Yamada attempts to chat with Kyotaro about that fiasco, Chihiro asks Yamada if she could accompany her to a karaoke session tonight with the basketball team.
Kyotaro doesn’t want to get involved with her foray. After school, Kyotaro notices the boy’s basketball team is accompanying the girls’ team to the session. This persuades Kyotaro to get involved. Kyotaro enters the karaoke establishment and observes Yamada, Chihiro, and both basketball teams eating, chatting, and having fun in the karaoke room.
He tries to flee, but several girls recognize him as the “speech guy.” They pester him with multiple questions and force him inside the karaoke room with Yamada and the others. Yamada notices Kyotaro and Kyotaro leaves and enters a different karaoke room without saying a word. Yamada leaves the others behind to chat with Kyotaro.
Yamada asks Kyotaro if she followed him here and Kyotaro remains silent because he knows he did. Then, Yamada asks Kyotaro if she heard her response to Haruya about liking someone. Yamada reflects on how this comment made her feel strange. Kyotaro opens up to Yamada about why he followed her here.
Yamada pokes at Kyotaro’s back briefly and the two notice the girls who dragged Kyotaro into the karaoke room are spying on them. Yamada and the girls entice Kyotaro to sing in front of everyone in the other karaoke room. Kyotaro reflects on his karaoke experience with Yamada and the basketball teams the next day.
Then, Hara graces Kyotaro’s presence at the school’s library. Hara says she wants to chat with him about something. Kyotaro spots Yamada spying on her and Hara from behind the bookcase. Hara asks Kyotaro and Yamada if they’d like to attend Sweets Paradise with her and Kanzaki. Yamada doesn’t want to ruin Hara and Kanzaki’s date, but Hara says Kanzaki insisted she’d come.
Additionally, Hara says she and Kanzaki aren’t dating and insists that Kyotaro tag along too. Hara informs Kyotaro that they plan to attend Sweets Paradise on White Day. Kyotaro ends up submitting and accepting Hara’s request. Hara informs Kanzaki that Yamada and Kyotaro will be joining them, filling him with glee.
Then, White Day arrives. We spot Kyotaro taking a subway car to Sweets Paradise. Hara greets Kyotaro and Kyotaro tells her he wants to arrive early to do some shopping. He learns Hara knows about his feelings for Yamada, so he opens up to her about his concerns regarding gifts to get her. Hara says she’s willing to help Kyotaro out.
The two leave the subway car and go for a stroll. Hara suggests getting Yamada a food-related item, but Kyotaro’s unsure about it. The two check out some accessories at a shop. Kyotaro’s uncertainty gets the better of him, so he apologizes to Hara for being overly negative. Hara spots a hat nearby and asks Kyotaro if he thinks this would be a great gift for Yamada.
Kyotaro tells Hara it looks cute. Simultaneously, Yamada and Kanzaki arrive and overhear Kyotaro’s remark. Yamada piggybacks on Kyotaro’s statement but gives Kyotaro a sour look. Kyotaro wonders if Yamada’s jealous and turns his attention to Kanzaki. Kanzaki wants to murder Kyotaro for his remarks and Kyotaro is left wondering why Kanzaki arrived early.
The four head to Sweets Paradise. While Yamada and Hara gather food, Kanzaki and Kyotaro monitor them from their table and chat with each other. Yamada and Hara arrive with food. Kanzaki notices Hara doesn’t have a lot of food on her plate, and insists that she get more food. Hara says she’s fine, but everyone hears her stomach rumbling.
Kanzaki silently tells Kyotaro that he requested Yamada to come because he felt she’d entice Hara to eat more. Kanzaki tells Hara she looks cute and Yamada finds that adorable. After Hara tells Yamada she always receives that compliment from Kanzaki, she gives Kyotaro a cold stare, alluding to her wishing he’d do the same for her more.
After Kanzaki tries to force Hara to eat more, Kyotaro intervenes and shares his opinion on the matter. Kanzaki agrees with Kyotaro and tells Hara that whether big or small, his feelings for her will never change. Kanzaki gives Hara a cutlery set for White Day and she loves it. Thanks to his encouraging remarks, Hara says she’ll eat her fill for today.
Later, Kanzaki tells Kyotaro that Yamada chose the gift he gave to Hara. While Kanzaki shares more details about what happened between him and Yamada, Kyotaro slightly snaps at him. Kyotaro says he doesn’t want Kanzaki to talk, look, or shop with Yamada. Kanzaki questions why while Kyotaro’s internally upset that Kanzaki outclasses him in ways.
Yamada and Hara stumble upon the two and Yamada hears Kyotaro tell Kazanki that “Yamada is his.” Realizing Yamada heard what he said, Kyotaro tries changing the subject. The four go for a stroll. Kyotaro reveals to the audience that he feels like an inferior man in comparison to Kanzaki. Kyotaro and Kanzaki discuss Kyotaro’s feelings for Yamada silently.
Kyotaro feels Yamada’s out of his league, but Kanzaki disagrees. Kanzaki tells Kyotaro that he and Yamada would make a great couple, causing Kyotaro to fumble his words. Kyotaro tells Kanzaki to confess to Hara and he says the words he shared with Hara earlier were his way of doing so. However, he knows that his words may not come across that way to Hara.
Hara interrupts the boy’s conversation and tells Kyotaro Yamada’s missing. She suggests they split up and look for her. When Kanzaki and Hara leave, Yamada grabs Kyotaro, and the two head somewhere. Kyotaro realizes this was a ploy to get both groups alone together. The two chat briefly about the value of having “alone time.”
Then, Yamada asks Kyotaro about his plans moving forward. Kyotaro tells Yamada he wants to go home. While in the subway car, Kyotaro self-reflects, and his imaginary ally snaps him out of it. Then, Yamada whispers into Kyotaro’s ear, asking him if he has something valuable stored in his bag.
Kyotaro and Yamada sit on a bench in a park. Yamada shows Kyotaro a photo of Kanzaki and Hara at a net cafe. While Yamada prattles on, Kyotaro grabs a muffin from his bag and shows it to Yamada. Yamada takes the muffin and Kyotaro feels she might be upset with this White Day present. Yamada says she loves it.
As she’s eating the muffin, she notices something sticking out of the muffin. She pulls it out and it happens to be a necklace. Kyotaro feels it is weird to give Yamada a necklace, so he tries to depart. Yamada stops Kyotaro and asks him to put the necklace on for her. After he puts it on, Yamada asks Kyotaro how she looks with it on.
Kyotaro gives Yamada a meaningful compliment, resulting in her crying. The episode closes with Kyotaro comforting Yamada.
The Episode Review
The Dangers In My Heart Season 2 continues to dazzle audiences with its strong cast, visuals, soundtrack, and much more. While the previous season was a joy, this one continues to land home runs. Not only are the main characters a blast to observe, but this season is using the anime’s side characters effectively, too.
From Hara’s helpful gestures to Kanzaki’s encouraging remarks, fans will appreciate the series’s author Norio Sakurai’s efforts to make her supporting cast feel rounded and essential. Not only that, but the situations that sparked from Hara and Kanzaki’s involvement with our young lovers were relatable, charming, and funny, too.
Many viewers will resonate with Hara’s worries about her appearance, and some will find Kanzaki’s problems endearing. As for Yamada and Kyotaro, what more can be said, but “wow.” The two have come a long way since season one. They continue to gradually grow as individuals and as a romantic pair, and never once have their outings felt utterly dull to watch.
Overall, The Dangers In My Heart delivered a marvelous episode. If the anime continues down the path it’s going, we anticipate it making everyone’s “best of” lists by this year’s end.
