Karte 3: I Want To Hug You
Episode 3 of The Dangers In My Heart begins with Kyotaro contemplating an idea for a story. Afterward, Kyotaro visits the school nurse because he has a headache. He learns Yamada visited the office because she’s having stomach problems, so Yamada pulls out some candy from her pocket and hands Kyotaro a pill for his pain. He finds a cup and notices Yamada used it earlier. He struggles to take the medicine but forcefully swallows the pill when Yamada startles him.
Yamada leaves but Kyotaro notices Yamada left her gym clothes behind but struggles to grab them. The nurse returns and throws Yamada’s clothes on Kyotaro, telling him to return those to her. Kyotaro attempts to return Yamada’s clothes, but she flees to the nurse’s office to secure her candy.
Kyotaro returns to class to continue working on his story. At the same time, Adachi confronts Yamada and attempts to ask her a sensual-themed question. Yamada, Adachi, and the others give him a cold look, so he changes the subject and leaves.
Adachi hands Kyotaro a letter to give to Yamada. Kyotaro doesn’t want to get into trouble with Adachi, so he hands Yamada the letter. However, he hands Yamada his drawing of his female protagonist instead. Kyotaro leaves the room to look at Adachi’s letter, where he discovers Adachi just wanted Yamada’s LINE address. He returns to class and hears Adachi conjure a new dirty plan for the girls. They proceed with the scheme, but the girls catch onto it.
Kyotaro returns to the library and questions Adachi’s pervy personality test. Yamada enters the room and notices someone at her chips. Yamada grabs Kyotaro’s hand and realizes he didn’t eat them. Kyotaro is flabbergasted by Yamada’s gesture as it pertains to the test.
During basketball practice, Kyotaro can’t seem to fathom this strange feeling he has in his chest. Yamada looks at Kyotaro from afar and gets hurt by a basketball. The coach takes Yamada to the nurse, and Kyotaro trails behind them.
Kyotaro hides under the bed to listen to their conversation, as Yamada calls her mother while crying. Yamada drops her wallet, and Kyotaro notices Yamada keeps his drawing in it. Kyotaro recounts all his meet-ups with Yamada and realizes he’s in love with her.
Kyotaro returns to class and overhears Adachi telling his friends he has samples of Yamada’s bloody tissues. Kyotaro wants to say something to Adachi but stops since he has blood marks on his shirt. Suddenly, people ask Yamada what happened to her nose, and she tells them she got hit with a basketball. Yamada asks Kobayashi to write the reason for her accident on her bandage.
Yamada tells her friends she was worried that her nose would be crooked forever. She feels her manager and parents would have been disappointed in her. Kyotaro leaves class and notices Yamada ran out of tissues. Kyotaro returns to the library and leaves several on the tables for Yamada. He hides behind the bookshelf and watches Yamada use the tissues while eating chips, as the episode closes out.
The Episode Review
The Dangers of My Heart carried mixed baggage this week. Although its latter half featured some heartfelt scenery and dialogue, the first half came across as overly sexual. Although Adachi and his cronies have discussed lewd subjects in prior episodes those chapters didn’t go overboard with those scenes as this one did. Many fans will appreciate Kyotaro’s methods of steering Yamada away from those conflicts. However, he participates in similar acts that kind of damage his likable stance against Adachi and his friends.
The episode’s sexual content aside, The Dangers In My Heart has Kyotaro admit he has feelings for Yamada. Whether he’ll drop his murderous intent toward Yamada begs to be seen, though. Judging from what he’s seen from Yamada so far, that may be the case. It’ll be intriguing to see Kyotaro’s future interactions with Yamada now that he harbors deeper feelings for her character. As for Yamada, I’m still leaning toward my theory that Yamada’s suffering from a type of mental disorder.
This chapter alludes to the fact with Yamada feels she’s let her mother and manager. She could be using food and sweets as a coping mechanism to relieve herself from her stressful life as a high schooler and model. Considering we just had Oshi No Ko discuss the problems with the entertainment industry in its showcase, it’d be interesting for The Dangers In My Heart to elaborate on that point too, but from a modeling industry perspective.
Overall, this was a decent chapter of The Dangers In My Heart. It had some compelling moments but too many sensual jokes. Hopefully, the future episodes can return to feeling more wholesome and dramatic like the latter half of this one. Otherwise, it’ll turn out feeling uncomfortable and less enjoyable for many watchers.
